11x17" Poster Design
What's This "That's So Gay" Business?
Hello! I'm Alison Rowan, an 18 year-old graphic design student, and "That's so gay" is something I hear far too often, especially among people my own age. It's used to mean that something is stupid or uncool or otherwise negative, which is not only offensive, but frankly, it doesn't make the speaker sound like the sharpest tool in the shed, either.
These t-shirts and posters were designed to challenge the phrase by targeting the speaker and letting them know that they have so many other words to choose from—So many options which better articulate their point and don't have hurtful side-effects if they'd simply rethink their derogatory word choice a little, instead of contributing to negative connotations of homosexuality.
Hopefully this design will be able to get those who use the phrase to stop and really think about what they're saying, and how they're shaping the attitude of our culture in doing so. By contributing to this project and displaying a poster or wearing a t-shirt, you'll be helping to do just that.

Sure, But How Can I Help?
Your funding for this project is essential in getting this design out to the world, where it can really do its work. Printers require a certain order size to bother printing a design at all, which is the challenge for a one-person endeavour like this. My fundraising goal is $1500, which will cover the cost of the first printing.
By contributing, you're pre-ordering your own copies of posters and/or t-shirts depending on the reward level you choose, and in doing so, you're helping to meet the minimum number required for an initial print run. This is your opportunity to ensure that you'll be one of the first people in the world to own a copy of the design! Contributions will also go toward covering the time required to package and ship orders. If a substantial amount of extra funds are raised, they will go toward making the t-shirts and posters available offline through Toronto craft shows by covering the costs required for vendor fees and building an inventory.

Getting Your Reward
Once the fundraising term is complete, I'll be in touch with you to find out all the details needed for your specific reward choice, whether it's simply your shipping address, or your t-shirt style (unisex/female) and sizing information, as well.
Please make sure to read the shipping information related to your specific reward package, listed at right. Shipping costs to Canada are included in the reward cost. If you live in the United States or elsewhere, you'll need to add the specified amount to your contribution to cover shipping.
This is a flexible funding campaign, so even if the full funding goal isn't raised, the reward you've earned will still be headed your way! That said, the world needs this design and it's our job to get it out there. If you want to see "That's so gay" erased from everyday speech as much as I do, this is your chance. You can help by spreading the word—whether you work best in person or by harnessing your social media skills, your sharing is much appreciated.
"That's so gay" needs to go away—And we're here to make that happen.
