*Update* Thank you so much to all!!! Please keep spreading the word and sharing the link. Although we know that the costs will far exceed $8000, we didn't want to set an overwhelming goal- our hope is to actually surpass our goal significantly! Thank you for showing your support for little Lukie!
Our Dear friends, Gary and Andrea, have an adorable, fun-loving 2-year-old boy, Lucas. Lukie is our amazing, generous, hysterical, charismatic, brilliant, harmonica-playing sweetheart. He is a brand new Big Brother and Mommy's little "helper monkey." He is instantly loved by everyone who meets him.
His favorite activities include playing at the beach, going for "bubbin" (blanket) rides, building forts with his Dad, looking for ladybugs, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and amazing his family with his wild antics ever since he was born. Lukie sure is a unique toddler...He loves veggies and all types of fish, especially sardines!
Lukie digs making muscles and showing off his "big guns" after taking his vitamins and sprinkling chia seeds on his oatmeal :-) What Lukie REALLY LOVES is a dance party! He has more rhythm and better moves than most adults!! We laugh that some of his favorite tunes are by J-Lo, Pitbull, Katy Perry, and Norah Jones.
Lukie has been a healthy baby from the start; weighing in at 9lbs at birth. He's always been an energetic, happy, playful little guy. Little did the family know, he had been running around with an enormous malignant mass in his chest for as long as several weeks to several months before it was found. On May 31, 2012, Lukie came down with a fever but was not behaving very differently. It was suspected he just had a viral infection and his parents expected the fever would subside within a few days. Well, the fever intermittently went away over those next few days but his energy level was declining.
Lukie's parents took him to his pediatrician on Monday, June 4th. They were sent for a chest x-ray. The radiologist showed Lukie's parents the image of his chest. His right lung was completely clouded out on the film. They were sent directly to the ER. It was later revealed there was a large malignant mass in his chest cavity and he underwent emergency surgery the very next day to remove 95% of the mass that was compressing his right lung and beautiful little heart. All of us were in shock after hearing the news. But like the resilient champ we all know he is, Lukie recovered from the surgery and the first thing he said after getting off the respirator was, "I want my pin (pacifier)." The surgeon even came by and called him the miracle child!
What We Need
Your support! Although they are well insured, their insurance plan will not cover everything. Co-payments and deductibles will have to be paid in relation to Lukie's medication, physician visits, hospital stays, chemotherapy treatments and time away from work so Gary and Annie can be at the hospital together supporting their son.
In addition to medical expenses, there are other major costs associated with caring for a child with cancer. Our goal is to raise at least $8,000 for Lukie. Although we know that the costs will far exceed $8000, we didn't want to set an overwhelming goal and our hope is to actually surpass our goal significantly!
As Lukie battles cancer, our hope is that financial burdens are the last thing on this family's mind, so that they can completely focus on helping Lukie beat cancer. Many of you know the Youssef family and many of you may not, but know this.....no matter how you can help, your contribution will help ease the burden for this wonderful family.
