WHO WE ARE
Upon graduating from UCLA, both Alan de la Rosa and Tarique Qayumi dreamed of making their first feature film. In 2011, they made a new years resolution that they would not leave the year without having made their dream a reality.
Filmmaking is a deeply personal undertaking for the duo.
Tarique’s passion for film stems from his childhood as a refugee travelling from Kabul, Afghanistan to Vancouver, Canada. Having lived a war adventure narrative that impacted his identity, he truly feels at home bringing such characters to life on the screen.
Alan’s love of film comes from his childhood, where movies where an escape from a strict religious upbringing that gave him little time to actually be a free spirited little boy. It was in these fantasy moments that Alan realized that he could actually find who he is.
With the synergy of their histories they hope that in making their films they can understand themselves and their world a little better.
After they came up with their original idea for “Targeting” they realized that they needed an authentic understanding of the military, so they teamed up with fellow Bruin, Joey Patterson who utilized his experiences as a Captain in the U.S. Army serving in Afghanistan.
Together they created, developed, and built the screenplay for "Targeting."
OUR FIRST FEATURE FILM
The story is about Mattie Ridgeway, a female soldier, who returns home from the war in Afghanistan, wounded psychologically she keeps her distance from her family; especially her 7 year old daughter. When she recognizes an Afghan person-of-interest from the past now living in her hometown, she begins infiltrating this man’s life since she believes that this man holds the secret to healing her wounds and thus giving her a chance to be with her daughter again.

Our culture has always had to deal with war and soldiers returning home from war, but never before have we socially had to deal with female soldiers returning home from war. That aspect really inspired us as dramatists and filmmakers to craft a story that would be relevant and emotional. But little films like ours don’t have a chance to really compete without the help of people like you to bring this unique material to light.
WHAT WE NEED
We need your contributions and support to provide finishing funds to complete postproduction on "Targeting." We are looking for $55,000 dollars to help cover these following expenses.
