TANGERINE GROVES - THE FILM
Tangerine Groves is about two siblings, Noah and Addie McCallan. Close to the anniversary of their parents' death, they decide to take a road trip to pay their respects. As they drive through the desert, they bond with each other and reflect on their relationship with their parents over the years.
This film is heavily inspired by the writings of author Truman Capote, playwright Sam Shepard, and the road films of director Wim Wenders.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR/WRITER/PRODUCER
I was born in 1992, and I currently attend the University of Southern California as an undergraduate film production major. Before I began studies at USC, I was a piano performance major at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio.
I am also a photographer - I've exhibited in the United States and also abroad, and I am represented by two art galleries, one in San Francisco and the other in Tokyo, Japan. You can view my work on my website and also on Flickr.
I strive to blend elements of both realism and surrealism into my work. The feeling of melancholy plays an important role in how I develop my ideas. I'm a very nostalgic person, and that constant state of yearning forms a fundamental undertone in my work.
PRINCIPLE PHOTOGRAPHY
The shooting of the film will take place over the course of three weeks in February (the film will be screened on March 24th, 2012). I will be working closely with my cinematographer (who will also be editing the film), along with four actors. Everyone involved in the production of Tangerine Groves will be working for free, and I cannot thank them enough for their generosity. Which brings me to the next part…
YOUR HELP
We simply cannot make this film happen without your help! Filmmaking is very expensive. However, I strongly believe that Tangerine Groves can be made and made well with the $3,000 budget.
The money raised from this campaign will help cover:
- The 1984 Volkswagen Westfalia vehicle rental (to be used in the film as well as a place to sleep overnight while filming in the desert for 2 days.)
- Car mounts for the camera
- Transportation expenses
- Food, water, and miscellaneous supplies to keep the cast and crew warm and happy during our shoots
- Insurance and location permits for Santa Monica Pier and areas in Imperial County
- Props and costumes
- Musical scoring by my friend and brilliant composer John Kearin.
It would be amazing if we could reach our goal, but even if we don't, we will be very grateful for any amount raised. Even if you cannot make a monetary contribution, that's okay! Sharing this campaign via Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms will help as well.
If we somehow raise more than our goal, the money will go toward future film projects!

Thank you so much for your support and interest in my film!
