Sweet Tea State of Mind: A Pictorial Love Letter to the American South
Hi! My name is Alex Green. I'm an Indiana-based photographer, born and raised, but I've always felt like I should have been born in the South. We never travelled much when I was a child, and I haven't had much of an opportunity to travel as an adult, but my favorite trips have always been to places where the the is sweeter :)
There's just something magical about the South. I don't know if it's the stately architecture, the Spanish moss, or the drawl that only seems to get thicker the farther south you go, but it feels like a completely different world to me. Unfortunately, I've never had a camera with me when I've been, so I've never been able to share all that beauty with the people around me.
With a little help, I can change that :)
For the first time since high school, I have a job that allows me to take the time off that this project deserves. his is going to be my first photo series, and I couldn't be more excited! I hope to one day publish a coffee table book as well :)My 25th birthday is this May, and it is my wish to commemorate this milestone with this road trip. The trip I have planned doesn't pass through every Southern state, but it will knock out quite a few that I've never experienced! I'm planning on spending 9-12 days meandering through new roads, over a 2500 mile course taking me through 10 other states (but with some wiggle room, of course!). There are several sights I'd love to see on the trip, including a trip to my first National Park and seeing the ocean for the second time.
This is going to be a birthday to remember, and I can't wait to share the journey with you!
What We Need & What You GetI have a long trip through several states planned, and I'm so excited to see more of the country! From Indiana, I'll be heading to Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky before making my way back to Indiana, all in my trusty Hyundai :)
I can't wait to grow as both a person and a photographer on this trip. As much as I love taking portraits, scenic photography is my true passion, and I can't wait to get back to my roots (not to mention that I want to show my husband why I love the South so much)!
I'm really looking forward to expanding my portfolio and using new techniques and equipment.
