You are seeing
Episode 01 of the Radical Resistance Tour, our digital media project.
When we say "our"
we mean we are two activists with media backgrounds who have been involved as organizers with Occupy Wall Street, and we've embarked on a multimedia project, touring the United States and interviewing individuals affected by corporate control, activists, people participating in direct actions, and people working to create a dual power model.
We have a website where we post photos, text, and videos about the people, places, and issues we encounter on our journey. We have two other activists who are doing research and editing footage while we're on the road and posting videos on the site. If we can, we may try to turn this into a full-length documentary so that we can reach more viewers. Since much of the coverage of the Occupy movement thus far has given the limelight to straight, white cis-gendered males, we're hoping to have the majority of our interview subjects be people who are from more marginalized communities, be it based on race, gender, sexual preference, ability, etc.
Our goal is to
show those who aren't on the ground how people are being directly affected by decisions being made by corporations and governments that put profits over people and the environment. We want to inspire more people to fight back by featuring people who are already fighting back, and hopefully gain some shared wisdom by listening to how others are resisting. We want to make connections between issues and build solidarity among movements - after all, we're all in this together.
Basically, we need funds for
- Gear. We're shooting on an iPhone and an iPod Touch - but tripods, rechargeable batteries, adapters, audio equipment (for the voice of the people!), etc. are also indispensable to the creation of these educational videos.
- Food and lodging. We're spending most of our nights on the road with friends and fellow activists, but there's a handful of nights where we have to pay for lodging with electricity to charge our equipment.
In appreciation, we'll give you things like:
- eternal thanks
- prints of our original photography from the trip
- DVD compilation of all episodes
we're not amateurs. We are a group of people who do or used to do media work for a living. Video editor, photographer, producer, director, writer, tweeter, advocate. We wear a lot of hats. Recent example - 1 of us was the editor of this video for O4O and 3 of us have been heavily involved with the group on its outreach, media, and direct action initiatives.
Another world is possible, and it's already being created, so let's participate together - we could use your help!
