Steve Jobs said that it's better to be a pirate than to join the navy, and there's nothing better than finding a crew of pirates to sail with. Sandbox is exactly that, and the Global Summit is our version of Tortuga. It's a place to think different with like-minded individuals, to build friendships and partnerships, to find creative solutions for global issues, and to get fresh ideas and inspiration for the businesses and initiatives that we're already working on.
Personally, the impact of joining Sandbox at the Global Summit would be extraordinary. I run a lifestyle firm for young professional women, LilyPad, with the goal of providing women with the training, resources, and innovative events that will help them excel in both their careers and personal lives. I am also the founder and director of the DC Young Entrepreneurs, a networking and educational organization for young entrepreneurs in Washington, DC and Michelle in Training, an organization that teaches professional skills and mentoring to high school girls from disadvantaged urban areas. Almost everything I do is focused on a) young women, b) young entrepreneurs, or c) all of the above. Meeting with the global members of Sandbox and linking with experienced mentors would be invaluable for helping my make these initiatives even more valuable and effective as we grow.
Some more about me? Well, I'm a lawyer, but don't hold that against me. So far I've done everything from teach first grade in rural Louisiana as part of Teach For America, work on juvenile justice with UNICEF in Cambodia and do human rights work in South Africa. I'm also 44 states into my goal of seeing all 50 states before I turn 30. I have two years left and North Dakota is definitely going to be the hardest. Much to my mother's chagrin, I didn't bother to apply for any jobs after law school. I knew I wanted to start my own business. Of course, i didn't expect to start three at the same time! But it hasn't killed me yet and in the process I've also managed to land my dream job which is basically being an entrepreneur every day, all across the country, but not for myself, for Teach For America.
So how will the funds be used? The funds raised will go towards the admission to the Global Summit ($1050) and the plane ticket to Lisbon, Portugal ($850), processing fees with IndieGoGo and Paypal ($100) not to mention my everlasting enlightenment and gratitude! Lodging, food and entertainment are coming out of pocket.
Thanks for reading! As you can see in this picture, I am anxiously awaiting your response! And even if you can't contribute, thanks for taking the time.
