Below is Jake's mom explaining what is happening:
"We love life and enjoy every minute of it, in our family. Yesterday began as any other day with a sick child. Jacob was sent for a chest x-ray, which showed an enlargement of his heart. Happened to be a day that the heart specialist from Duke was in Danville. He decided that Jacob needed to enjoy a nice helicopter ride to Duke Medical Center, to visit the doctors in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU.
Once arriving with the team at Duke, they were able to get Jacob stabilized and comfortable. This morning, we realized how sick Jacob REALLY IS! Amazingly, Jacob has been alert, knows all that is going on with him, and helping to make decisions. His heart is not functioning well, at all. It is pumping around 10% and after a few labs are run he will be placed on the heart transplant list. This will be a long journey for Jacob, but we feel good about where he is at and what the people at Duke are doing for him. I have faith in all things and understand that I am not in control. God is Great!"
Needless to say, this is going to be quite the journey for their family. They will need our prayers, love, and support during this time. Any financial contribution you can offer will make a difference. Your help will be a tangible blessing during this process.
