Why Gardens?
Because gardens produce healthier food. Only 2% of American children eat enough fruits and vegetables, and 1 in 3 American children born after 2000 is at risk for Type II diabetes. A garden is an introduction to the real, healthy food students and families need access to.

Because gardens can help fix America's nature deficit. With more than 80% of Americans living in cities and suburbs, we need to work harder than ever to teach the values of natural processes.

Because gardens are a living laboratory for education. Not just healthy food—a lesson on what producing healthy food requires. Not just exposure to nature—a way for children to literally harvest the fruits of their labor.

A True Seed Investment
For as little as $10, you can help a community reap all the benefits a garden has to offer. In just 39 days, we plan to raise $2500 per garden; to feed,  teach, and inspire people in each of these 100 communities. Here are a few things our garden plans to do with your donations:

The Growe Foundation’s mission is to address the health and environmental issues affecting children by providing schools with organic vegetable gardens and an experiential learning program called the Garden to Table. The program promotes the growing and eating of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, and educates children how their food choice affects the health of their bodies and the planet. Kinder through Fifth grade Garden to Table lessons integrate into the academic curriculum, providing students with the experiences, knowledge and skills needed to live healthy and environmentally sustainable lives. Classes give students the opportunity to collect seeds, plant, harvest, taste and learn about the nutritional benefits of vegetables. Growe is working with Superior Elementary parents and community supporters to raise $2500, that will go towards the refurbishment of the garden in area. The items we are looking to raise money for are:

(1) Crusher fine materials for our garden area to help abate weeds. Also needed is weed fabric, pins and metal edging.

(2) 6x 6 lumber to create two new beds in the garden area. Beds will be 7 x 2 and 1ft high. Fastening and irrigation supplies will be needed.

(3) A garden storage shed and shelving to keep our garden tools and equip safe.

(4) Garden plants and seeds for the growing season.
