Welcome to Sunny Lane! Thank you first and foremost for visiting this site! Sunny Lane is inspired by my life story. I have lived and breathed the foster care system since I was 7 years old. I started working on this story when I was 16 years old. One day I sat in an empty warehouse with a stack of six banker boxes filled with my life. I went through document after document. As an abused child your voice is silenced. With this film and with all of your support, we will raise the voices. I want our abused children to start talking and I want our adults to start sharing. The more we talk, the more we raise awareness and the more light we shed on what needs to be changed.
- Lydia Joyner
Inspired by writer/director Lydia Joyner's true life events, this film tells the story of Eden and Izzie. Two teenage cousins, Eden and Izzie, born into a sexually and physically abusive family, always found ways to protect each other. However when Eden’s mother has a schizophrenic episode the two are separated into a foster care system that only perpetuates the violence forcing each young girl to find their way out alone.
Child abuse is an ongoing problem. I want to use this film as a platform to give other abused children a voice. Most abused and neglected children never come to the attention of government authorities. This is particularly true for neglected and sexually abused children. In the case of sexual abuse, secrecy and intense feelings of shame may prevent children from seeking help. These children need our support. A dialogue needs to be had We begin here and now.
