PRODUCTION STARTS IN JUST A FEW WEEKS! HELP US GET THERE!
There's an amazing story afoot and it's time to dive in and make a documentary film! Last time, it was in a Kentucky prison (Shakespeare Behind Bars). The time before it was on a South Dakota Indian reservation (Homeland). Now, we've set our sights on an old folks home in New Jersey which is anything but ordinary. Anything but sedate. We've got 80 year olds who are feeling young love again...We've got to get the cameras rolling!
"STILL DREAMING" is a feature film that will follow a group of retired entertainers now living at the Lillian Booth Actors Home just outside NYC as they mount a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's fantastical romp through a moonlit forest. This troupe has decided to act on their collective love of Shakespeare and take a huge leap of faith into what was once known, but is now so seemingly treacherous. Stretching their physical, emotional and mental limits, they are agreeing to take the two-month journey together to stage a production.
The stakes will be high for these actors, as this might just be their last work. Some are thrilled at the prospect of one last chance to perform. Some are afraid to re-enter a process with less mental and physical faculties than they had in their prime. In any case, this troupe of talented and unique individuals are ready to express their uncensored opinions about both the creative process and what love and dreaming can offer us towards the end of our days.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH US
We are confident that this film will be as rich and compelling as our last effort, Shakespeare Behind Bars, which has been now been broadcast around the world and still continues to be shown at universities, Shakespeare Festivals and art house cinemas. The film sparked several similar prison theatre programs and continues to support those in the prison rehabilitation movement.
HERE'S THE DEAL
We need over $20,000 to get into production and begin shooting before the elders of the Lillian Booth go ahead without us and begin the play casting and rehearsal. This will pay for our travel to location, camera rental, and an award-winning crew (including Shana Hagan who shot Shakespeare Behind Bars). We know this is a vital and rich story just about to unfold, and we don't want to miss the beginning of the process. It's very difficult to raise money from big film funders at this stage of the game, and we are reaching out for help from people like you - people who love the Arts, Shakespeare, and acting, and believe that creativity has a place in everyone's lives, no matter your age. Your money will help us get enough footage to cut together a longer sample reel, which is what big funders like to see before placing their bets.
Our total cost to shoot this summer is over $75,000, so all of this IndieGoGo money is vital to our ability to pull this off. We can't shoot without making our goal of at least $20,000. Even more would be better!
By helping us fund this film now and by helping get the word out, YOU GET TO BE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY in the making - part of the founding group of folks who foster an important creative project and help launch it into being. You'll get INSIDER STATUS UPDATES, not just during funding, but throughout the filmmaking process. We want you to be involved. Those of you who can give at the "Lover" level will even get to be a part of the editing process - giving feedback on the rough cut of the film. YOUR HELP MEANS EVERYTHING TO US! THANK YOU!
