The Ridgefield Theater Barn has been bold enough to champion the musicals that director Alicia Dempster has brought to their theater and Spring Awakening is no exception. Your funds will help us to bring this powerful musical to life in a way that is as electric and groundbreaking as the musical itself!

Your Funds At Work

Unlike the musicals our parents & grandparents grew up enjoying, Spring Awakening is the marriage of traditional musical theater with the contemporary edge of a rock concert. Your contribution will go directly to the production costs which include:

• Purchase of a new sound board and wireless microphone system
• Purchase of non-traditional lighting instruments, including LED lighting
• Purchase of period costumes
• Stipends for our pit, which includes live string performers
• Stipend for our fight director, so that that our performers are kept safe at all times
• Travel and expenses for original Broadway cast members attending our special talkback performance

Why Spring Awakening Is Important

Theater is such a powerful and immediate art form where each performance is a special and unique experience shared only once by the performers and the audience. The cost of attending a Broadway production is slowly impeding the ability for people to attend, especially young people. The future of theater depends on getting young people involved and passionate about the art form. Spring Awakening is the perfect musical to bridge the gap by providing a piece that resonates with today's youth and the generations that precede them.

Spring Awakening is a special piece of theater that utilizes a contemporary medium to address issues that are still important today, over 100 years after the play was written. The topics of sexual awakening, homosexuality, peer pressure, school performance, incest, suicide, child abuse and abortion still exist and the need to become educated and to open the lines of communication about these issues is even more prevalent today. Spring Awakening is the perfect piece to spark important conversations with all who see it.
