"Socotra. The hidden
land": The film
Unbelievable landscapes, astonishing legends, a hidden
island lost in time... discover Socotra like never before.
Want to join our trip?
Socotra. Year 2013. A lost island, somewhere in the Arabian Sea near the coast of Yemen. Kilogram Box starts an amazing journey to document a story never told before. Every step you take in this ancient and extraordinary land is a new discovery: unique landscapes, myths...
Socotra, the hidden land, a production by Kilogram Box, is a reflection of the life and customs of this isolated society, told by some of the most remarkable characters on the island, who tell us in their own words about their spirit, their future and their daily struggle to preserve their traditions in the face of globalization.
How the journey started...
Carles Cardelús, half of the Kilogram Box team, explains in his own
words: "months ago, I heard by chance on the radio an interview with one
of the few persons that have kept records of daily life on Socotra in the form
of a non-fiction novel. I was fascinated and touched by it: a
disappearing culture, its legends, myths... I was so heartbreakingly moved that
I felt I should share it with everyone. I had to do something about it."
And it could be no other way;
the journey started. Carles Cardelús and Anna Escurriola, the other half of Kilogram
Box, involved a top team of professionals from the music and film
industries to develop this ongoing project that is now moving forward ever
Why this campaign?
The most important thing for us is to explain this story and share it with the world. The project is up and running and has been for many months, but we need your help to keep it going, and your cooperation may be decisive in giving a voice to the people of Socotra, their challenges and the problems which threaten their survival. Having recorded most of the documentary, we need to return to Socotra to follow up on the stories of some of the characters and to offer as complete a view as possible.
What do we need?
Our greatest wish is to share this film with as many people as possible, but you can't live only on dreams. That's why we need to get together $25.000 in the next 45 days by crowd-funding. We've got our fingers crossed 24/7! If we don't get the money we'll still be eternally grateful, but we'll need to cut back on the means to achieve our goals. Which are?:
- To finish filming in Socotra.
- To pay the post-production costs of the film (music, editing etc.).
- To pay part of the international publicity campaign so everyone can hear the story.
"And what do I get out of this?"
Of course, any help would
have a payback. If you back our campaign with a contribution, you'll get a
special mention on the Wall of Thanks at our web page (www.socotrafilm.com),
you get exclusive rights to download the Original Sound Track and stream the
film. Depending on the size of your contribution, you could also receive a
poster, limited edition photos signed by the production team, a CD with the OST
and the DVD of the documentary before its public release.
We want to tell this story the only way we know: in pictures. In 2011 we founded Kilogram Box, a film production company and studio for the creative arts, with the goal of providing innovative ideas and to maintain our independence. We love making movies and getting involved in audiovisual projects. We have worked on a number of internationally relevant productions such as The good heart, which won five Edda in 2011 and the award for best cinematography at the Göteborg Film Festival (2010), among others, or I want to be a soldier, best film at the Gaudi Awards 2012 and winner of the Marcus Aurelius Award at the Rome Film Festival 2010.
Other ways of backing us:
We know that not all of you can cooperate financially, but that doesn't mean that you can't lend a hand in the project. Share this campaign with the social tools of Indiegogo, spread the trailer around and help to let everyone know about it. The more, the merrier, and the better! And you'll definitely have our eternal gratitude.
