Take your home a step closer to sustainability and save money by building graywater reuse and rainwater catchment systems with our step-by-step video course. Cut your water bill to zero while doing good for the planet.
Take a moment to view the video above - it explains everything about this world-changing project. We're creating an instructional step-by-step video manual on how to build your own rainwater catchment and graywater reuse systems. This will be a complete guide to eliminating your water bill by meeting the majority of your annual water needs by capturing the water from your roof and then designing water reuse cycles through graywater filtration.

What's the big deal about water catchment?
The combination of harvesting rain combined with graywater reuse can literally save the world while definitely saving you money. Did you know that reusing greywater can save well over 50% of the average American family’s household water usage -- and that's without harvesting rainwater? This is an astounding figure when we consider how vital water is to our planet’s health and well-being. We can cut our water usage in half by designing smart water systems, and let the planet keep more clean water to maintain its ecosystems.
Water reuse fundamentals
Household wastewater is classified into two groups - greywater and blackwater. Greywater refers to the wastewater from your shower, laundry machines, and bathroom sinks. It contains bacteria, fiber particles, and dead skin cells, which is very nourishing for your garden plants, and doesn’t pose a huge health risk. Blackwater refers to the wastewater from your toilet and kitchen sink, because it is loaded with feces and grease. It can contain animal parasites and excess nitrogen that will pollute the environment. Greywater can be fed directly to your garden plants, whereas blackwater needs deeper filtration to be safe for returning to the ecosystem.
Harvesting rainwater off of your roof can fulfill one-third of your household water needs each year. Add that to a greywater system that reuses your household water to water your garden and lawn, and you’ve basically met close to two-thirds of your household water needs. How’s that for saving money on water?
About the Regenerative Leadership Institute
We are an eight-year old sustainable living and permaculture design school. We brought you the world's first completely free online permaculture course, a project that completely redefined the way permaculture education is done. We change people's lives by fundamentally reconnecting with nature and themselves, remembering our collective heritage and creating a beautiful, thriving future.
Our instructors are some of the most well-known leaders of the sustainability movement. Here is what one of our program participants said about the extraordinary caliber of instruction she received:
