Hey everyone… sorry it has taken so long to give another update! As you can probably guess I have been hard at work getting SHINY prepared to open, there have been some bumps in the road and as to be expected things are taking longer than I was hoping… BUT we should be up and running early spring! Thank you so much for your support and patience. Be sure to keep up with our Facebook change for more consistent updates – just search “Shiny Music Hall”
Hey everyone, with less than a week to go I wanted to thank those that have contributed and ask that anyone that cannot contribute please consider sharing the link and telling friends – SHINY is going to be a FANTASTIC venue but we still need your help!
Especially help spreading the word for the last couple days! Have your friends watch the video, look and the perks and see if they can find something that will fit their budget! Thank you!
First – thanks to EVERYONE who has started talking about SHINY Music Hall, we have a great buzz going and cannot wait to open! Also, a big, huge, awesome thank you needs to go out to Mike, Gregg, Brian, Tricia, Steve, Inger, Michael, Jory, Sunny, Mendy, William, Mimi, Brett, Lisa, Miguel, Mariah, Marty, Frank, Anthony & Danielle – all of which have contributed their hard earned cash monies to the campaign. THANK YOU!
Now, let’s take a moment to further explain some of the design elements for SHINY. When the video was posted I mentioned bringing a new and exciting style to PDX and I was mostly referring to two things – the overall design & the way we’ll be putting on shows/dance nights.
Let’s start with the design, we are going with a very stark and bright design consisting of off whites, metallic finishes, bright colors and mirrors. Inspiration came from Manchester’s famed nightclub – The Hacienda – that opened in the early 80s & was partially owned by New Order… this venue was one of the hottest spots in the world for a while and played host to countless DJs, party kids and musicians, most of whom went on to amazing big careers (including the Smiths & Madonna). We want to pay homage to that famed space by creating something very similar (albeit on a smaller scale). Check out pictures of The Hacienda here (http://bit.ly/UJbkOX) to get an idea of what we are aiming for.
Call it Post-Punk or New Wave if you’d like, but what we are aiming for does not currently exist in Portland and we think you’ll absolutely love it!
Now let’s talk about booking, and how it will set us apart, most places in Portland are either a live music venue or a dance club, and while there has been a rise in venues playing host to dance nights – there is no venue specifically created to cater to both. We want to be that space! Our goal is to bring in acts that are slightly too big for a space the size of SHINY – so you know it will always be full and will always be lively. We are bringing in brand new lighting and sound system that will be crisp, clear, clean and beautiful to your eyes and ears.
So there you go! Another little glimpse into the future of SHINY Music Hall… please consider donating today!
OR if you are interested in backing the project on a higher scale and want a great return – please email me at shinypdx@gmail.com and let’s talk!
