We are Graduate Design students from California College of the Arts looking to not only better ourselves, but better the world around us through humanistic and thoughtful design. We understand how competeptive the job market is, but we also understand the need to be an individual - to stand out and show the world you are not just another resume looking for a job.
Our business is a web-based service that helps the differently-abled find gratifying employment opportunities by focusing on and promoting that person’s skill set coupled with their unique perspective. We want to help job seekers network and connect while supporting their personal journey. We want to help them “get outside of the box” by understanding the full range of opportunities available to them. Our website helps them do just that.
Our ultimate goal is to shift the current perceptions of the differently-abled in the eyes of the workforce. We wish to empower people with disabilities by promoting their skills and abilities rather than focusing on their inabilities. We want to generate understanding and enthusiasm for their innovative perspectives.
What We Need & What You Get
While we would absolutely love to start a company like this, SHIFT.org is a semester-long startup project and competition for our Business of Design course. The company will not actually be launched, but all the funds raised will be donated to a wonderful non-profit we are working with, Architecture for Humanity. We would appreciate the nod towards our efforts in social change along with the support for Architecture for Humanity in the form of a $1 donation. Our success in this project will be weighted in the amount of people that give, not the amount raised. We ask your support by giving $1 and thus your vote, then spread the word!
The driving inspiration for this project was the thought of our own network of friends and family members that are differently-abled. Shifting social perceptions is a passion we all firmly believe in.
