Send WeSLAM To Nationals!

CUPSI is the largest collegiate poetry competition in the country, with college teams coming from all across the 50 states to compete. 2012 will be our second year at CUPSI--in our rookie year, we finished 7th in the nation and took home the coveted Spirit of the Slam Award as well as the prize for Best Persona Poem.

We believe we can do even better this year.

But in order for us to get there, we need YOUR help. This year, the competition is going to be held in April at the University of La Verne in California and expenses run high: there's airfare, registration fees, and hotel reservations. We are setting up this Indiegogo, which will allow you, the user, to pledge ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY to our cause. If you can't pledge money, consider donating a Facebook or Twitter status.

WeSLAM isn't even two years old, but has already reached out to multitudes of audience members and fellow poets on campus. WeSLAM has a diverse range of voices, from freshmen to seniors, from California to New York, from Tennessee to Vermont. Moreover, when we refer to weSLAM we're not referring only to the 5 poets on our team, but the whole poetry and slam community at Wes -- a community that has shown unmatched amounts of love and support since our inception.  WeSLAM has earned a reputation in the slam world for rolling with a mob-sized family because we have always travelled with an entourage of WesPoets supporting us at every go.  

So, our reach extends far past Wesleyan itself. WeSLAM won the Wade-Lewis Poetry Slam Invitational in 2011 and has twice been awarded the Spirit of the Slam (CUPSI 2011 and Yale Regional Slam 2012), an award that goes to the team that best embodies what slam is supposed to be all about: heart, enthusiasm, passion, community.

We're going to CUPSI because we want to share our voices again and we want to hear from others and learn from them in the process. This will allow for the betterment of the arts community at Wesleyan and a voice in the slam poetry community at large.

Every cent will get us closer to CUPSI, so contribute whatever you are comfortable with.

This also benefits you, dear reader, as there are incentives for donations exceeding $4--including CDs of our recorded work and an opportunity to have an original poem written by one of the team members about you or a topic of your choosing.
