WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
What if two guys wrote a comic book to escape their reality
What if that comic book invaded their reality
What if the comic book foretold the death of many in their town?
Simon Goodman is a 16 year boy living in a run down seaside town With his best friend Joe Harper he creates a comic book called 'Scrawl' as a way to gain some notoriety and pick up girls. It isn't long before they start to see situations in the comic book come to life. At first it's great, girls start to become interested in them, and all seems fun. But then they start to worry, because at page 25, they've written a huge bloody massacre, and not only that, but monsters start to show themselves. How will it all end?
I'm Writer/Director Peter Hearn (Appleseed Lake/Cross-Eyed Waltz) I have been working in the industry and education since early 2001. I have worked as a writer, director as well as a producer, editor, cinematographer and actor, and well as a lecturer in Film Production.
This new project, in collaboration with Andover College, is designed to have professionals working alongside in-training actors and technicians in order to achieve a goal of creating a fresh and vibrant independent feature that can tour festivals worldwide, and beyond.
Scrawl, a new independent horror film, designed to be a fun, exciting horror requires help from you in order to achieve its purpose. It is a big sprawling project that is designed to have professionals working alongside in training actors and technicians currently studying in the FE sector. It is an opportunity for them to learn on set from those already doing it, to work alongside professionals in order to get their first credits of working in the industry.
In preparation for this, we shot a short film 'Motto' which sits within the world of 'Scrawl'.
Watch it here or on our gallery.
With your help, this can come to fruition. You may well be contributing to future award winners futures, to help give young people their first real experiences, maybe even helping future Oscar winners. By helping to fund this project, not only are you helping out a unique and exciting project but you are helping to create history.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking to raise $5,000 in order to pay for equipment as well as expenses for professional actors working on the project.
The following needs to be covered
Make Up/Special Effects
Equipment (sound/post production)
What happens if we exceed our funding target?
- Pro equipment for the main feature shoot.
- Film festival submission fees, for post-production necessities.
- Fees for our professionals inc actors, sound designer, soundtrack artists, artists who are presently working for free
- possible Google and Facebook ads.
- and more...
In return for funding, excellent goodies are on offer. There is signed artwork by Jay Boulton and Peter Hearn, creators of the comic book that appears inside the movie as well as signed comic books, just like the ones that wil appear in the film. Signed props, specially designed t-shirts, producer credits and even the chance to have a character named after you.
If we don't reach our goal, the money raised will still go toward making the film look and sound as good as it can. We aim to be ambitious with even the smallest budget. If we raise the designated funds it will allow us to be even more ambitious and even more exciting.
The Impact of all this
This project, Scrawl, is not only important to the filmmaking community as an exciting and fresh horror film, but more importantly it is important to help the next generation of filmmakers and actors/actresses to make their mark in the industry. 'Appleseed Lake' and 'Cross-Eyed Waltz', my previous feature production credits, as well as the numerous shorts I have made over the years show that I am adept to pulling off a low budget production that looks more than its budget. We will be filming in November with a cast that includes Nathalie Pownall (Credo), Elizabeth Boag (Jack Malchance) alongside a wealth of newcomers. We would love it if you were part of it.
