First things first, what is SAG-AFTRA?
The Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is an American union representing over 150,000 film and television actors around the world.
Who? What? Where? When? Why?
Hello family and friends!
I have a dream. Don’t we all?! I’m sure you’ve heard it all before but let me tell you about mine. For as long as I can remember I have been telling stories. I tell people all the time that there are people in my head wanting to come out. Telling their stories, bringing them to life is my greatest passion and there is nothing in the world like it. When I was a child I used to drag my mom to open casting calls and auditions for acting schools. I jumped at the opportunity to be apart of school plays, and even did Community Theater while I was in college.
I have been in LA pursing my dream, auditioning, taking acting class, and of course as many actors do working at a restaurant to pay the bills.
I have been so fortunate to spend a good deal of time in front of the camera telling other peoples stories. I have worked with so many talented artists. I played a recurring character named Denise in the web series This Indie Thing, I had a really juicy role in the Indie thriller Spin the Bottle: This Kiss of Death, and most recently I wrapped a supporting role in Jessica’s Journey, a movie I am sure will inspire and motivate any one who watches it; but lets be honest the best part is that Lark Voorhies aka Lisa Turtle is in it too! In my spare time I even write my own scripts and imagine what they would look like on film. I realized that I wasn’t satisfied with just imagining them I needed to make them come to life, so I am in the process of starting a production company, but that’s another story completely.
What I need
Because of my work in a SAG-AFTRA project I now qualify to be apart of the union. What does this mean you might ask, well I will tell you! It means that SAG-AFTRA has officially invited yours truly to join the actors union. This affiliation will help to open doors I have not been privy to until now. Having a SAG-AFTRA card identifies me as a professional who can now be represented by an experienced agent; and can command the appropriate wages and working conditions. It can also mean more opportunities to audition for your favorite shows and roles in blockbuster movies all of which are under SAG or AFTRA contracts and thus only hire SAG-AFTRA members.
Here is where you come in…
Once you have become eligible to join SAG-AFTRA there is a one-time initiation fee of $3000. In addition you are also required to pay the semi-annual dues of $100. Calculating these cost as well as the fees to use this service I have a goal of $3300. This is a pretty substantial financial commitment of which I can only achieve through the support of my friends and family. I hope that you are inspired to help me push to the next level. If you are able to, could you please consider a gift of any amount possible to show your support?
No donation is too small. Every dollar counts and is greatly appreciated!
Other Ways You Can Help
Word of mouth is by far the most powerful tool, so make some Noise! Please help me out by sharing this project with others! You are my TEAM! You can help me get the word out by telling your family and friends, by sharing my vision through social media, and any other ways you can imagine.
Be sure to stop by the comments section and drop me a line. I want to hear from you! Tell me about your dreams and help me sponsor mine.
All the best,
LaShanay Donise Reita
