How it Began
During the Winter of 2011, in the months leading up to Imbolc, I embarked on a creative, spiritual journey. I went into my room upon waking, performed my devotional before my home shrine, and proceeded to write a series of inspired songs by candle-light. The experience was profound for me, as it synthesized my creative expression of music with my deep connnetion to religious ritual.
Now, over a year later, I'm embarking on another journey: I'm seeking support to release an EP of 6 of the songs born from these daily writing rituals, and I'm calling it, Sacred Electric Grove.
Here is a sample lyric from the song, "Offering" - (which you can hear on Soundcloud)
Putting the Written Word to Music
I write the blog, Bishop In The Grove. I work to create and further an introspective dialogue within a diverse religious community. My readership includes Pagans, Polytheists, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and even a wide cross-section of non-religious thinkers.
I believe this EP offers something to all of my readership, and to anyone who seeks to be inspired by music. Regardless of whether we believe or practice in a similar way, music that comes from the heart can be a uniting force.
If you donate to this campaign, you will support me by paying for the following:
- Studio time -- I've already got a head start on the recordings, but there's still a good bit of work to be done. The recording studio is booked by the day, and the engineer receives a day rate as well. Your money helps pay a fair wage to him, and the additional musicians on the project, as well as cover the cost of hard drives and instrument rental.
- Mixing and Mastering -- The mixing will be done locally in Colorado, but the mastering will be done out of state.
- Artwork and Packaging -- The Sacred Electric Grove EP will be beautiful and simple. The photography, the design, the typography -- all of it chosen to compliment the spirit of the music. The packaging will be minimal, primarily made of recycled material, and as plastic-free and eco-conscious as possible.
- Rewards -- In addition to the music, there are some awesome incentives coming your way. Just look at the column on your right to select which level of giving is best for you.
This campaign runs until the next full moon, July 4th.
I believe in this music, and I believe it belongs in the world. I'm asking for your support - whatever you can give - to help make this dream a reality
