"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
-Walter Elias Disney
Getting accepted into CalArts' Character Animation program was my dream come true. For months upon months, I was obsessed with every ounce of all things CalArts. All of my research on where to begin with a training in animation pointed in the direction of this one place in southern California. The program was presitigous, and while I knew it would not be easy I had to try. My first attempt was rejected, but the dedication towards this goal was steadfast. I would try again the following year, and in that time pour everything that I had into raising myself up to meet this dream.
It's About Hitting The Ground Running
The reason I felt a crowdfunding project is important here is because now that the dream of going to CalArts has been fulfilled, the reality of the financial tolls an opportunity of this magnitude have been presented as well. Although I am doing everything I can with federal aid in this situation, unfortunately there are some things that are just still out of reach. With the money I'll raise on here I will:
- Get a plane ticket to fly from New Jersey to California
- Pack and ship my belongings to the California Institute of the Arts
- cover my books & materials expenses for the school year
- cover my meal plan in the dorm hall for the school year
- cover my healthcare expense provided through the school
With each generous donation, there are some great incentives listed. I have included illustration prints, sketchbooks (including the one that got me accepted into CalArts), caricatures, and commissioned paintings. Even if my goal is not met, I will be using whatever funds I've raised up to cover what I can.
Other Ways you can Help
I get that not everyone will be able to share in the making of this dream come true. Still, it is important that this is shared with friends, family, and the online community to hopefully inspire people. After I received the letter of acceptance, I thought about that this meant to me. It became more important than ever, because I didn't grow up rich. I didn't go to a private art school. I put in the work to make something I love doing a reality, and it came to fruition. So please, if you can- Share this around the social media sites like Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, and Tumblr.
