We're excited to announce the band for the night of the Ball. The Cosmo Alleycats, a talented local band, will fill the Ballroom with their tinkling piano, hearty sax, thumping bass, and mix of soulful jazz and upbeat swing. Fans of the band describe their repetiore as "classy," "amazing," and "world-class, skilled musicians." So put your dancing shoes on and get ready to snap your fingers!
Continuing to Give Back
We're excited to announce Phase II of our crowdfunding campaign!
Moving forward, all contributions will go directly to the Rotunda restoration and help us achieve a new goal of $45,000. We've impressed the University so much that they reached out to inform us that an extra $30k will garner recognition as the first group donor to be a Lifetime member of Jefferson’s Circle.
This renowned circle first began when Thomas Jefferson appointed a 'circle of friends' as the 'subscribers, contributors, and founders' of the university. Today, the Jefferson Circle supports the preservation of the Academical Village and resources may be used for restoration of Jeffersonian structures and landscapes, education, documentation, and on-site research, maintenance and furnishing of historic buildings and gardens, and awareness of the historical and cultural significance of the Academical Village.
Now that we've got the east coast's attention, let's show them the success we're really capable of achieving!
We Did It!
$15,000 Goal Hit
THANK YOU so much! You've helped us reach Phase I of our goal! We couldn't be more grateful and to all those who have showed support in one form or another, please know you are paving the way for great things to come in the future and should be proud to take part in these thrilling historical times!
There is just under a month left in the campaign with some great perks still available to claim, so keep spreading the word! And there are about 23 tickets left to the Rotunda Ball, so if you or someone you know hasn't bought one yet, this is a friendly reminder - we want to see your smiling faces on November 22nd!
The Rotunda Gives to Us
Signing the offer letter to attend the University of Virginia came with a cocktail of feelings as we all knew our views and experiences were going to change. But we probably didn’t know that through our time spent at the university, one thing would remain the same: Jefferson’s Rotunda.
Shel Silverstein first published The Giving Tree in 1964. This children’s book follows the life of a boy and his relationship with a tree throughout his life. He first uses the tree for play, swinging from branch to branch and climbing her trunk. Then as time goes by he grows up and asks the tree for other ways to make him happy, until finally he is old and just wants to sit on the tree’s stump and relax. The story ends with “And the tree was happy.”
When the news broke that renovations were needed to the Rotunda, it brought light to the always giving and never taking reality of the iconic dome perched at the head of the Academical Village. For close to 200 years, the Rotunda has survived experiences that shaped our country; monumental revolutions and discoveries that we will never fathom. And through every major and minor event, the Rotunda has remained an anchor.
Now construction on the Rotunda is underway and the stressed historic palisade needs our help.
The dome's badly rusted roof was replaced with new copper lining and fresh paint just before this year's commencement, but many phases of this $51M endeavor have yet to be completed. The 16 crumbling marble columns, skylight restoration, and other exterior repairs are rounding out the first phase.
The second phase focuses on the interior, primarily the Dome Room and wings. Major improvements include a better acoustical control system and lightning protection, new underground infrastructure, expansion of office and classroom space, easier wheelchair and handicap accessibility to the terrace level. All of these proposed renovations are meant to re-incorporate the Rotunda into the academic life of the University.*
We Give Back
When the UVaClub of San Francisco caught wind of this massive, historical project, we wanted to show our support and let Jefferson’s community know that they were still close to our hearts despite the miles in between.
In short, it was our turn to give.
And in true SF fashion of always looking for an excuse to throw a party, the solution was clear: host the 1st annual black tie (white tie optional) event. We have no doubt that we will be able to give a substantial donation to the Rotunda from the event, and are looking to raise at least $15,000 by the end of August so that we can focus the rest of the campaign on raising funds explicitly for the Rotunda.
Those of us who traveled westward post-UVA experienced many changes, but our inherent ability to make merry for a good cause endured. Our lives at UVA were unforgettable with so much remaining with us - bonds unbroken, traditions judicially honored, and values forever instilled - that taking a night to laud and praise our legacy makes us proud to raise a glass in support.
We are excited to invite you to the best southern ball west of the Mississippi River at a dignified venue with hors d’oeuvres, a live band, dancing as well as a few surprises that will transport you back to your collegiate days in Charlottesville.

It is the perfect location to celebrate the Rotunda of yesterday and ensure that it lives on tomorrow.
