What can I say?
I'm a fan of films like Scanner Darkly and Waking Life.
Ever since seeing the work of Flat Black films I have been obsessed with figuring out an automated way to achieve a similar result.
The process used in those films seemed way to time consuming and labor intensive, so I have spent the last three years experimenting and perfecting my technique to automate the process.
A little about me: I'm a DP (Director of Photography) I shoot all kinds of stuff.
Most of it bland commercial images that pay the bills (almost). I'm also a creative photographic techniques enthusiast having played with, and sold, HDR time-lapse, long exposure time-lapse, and a variety of other niche techniques.
But rotoscoping video has proven to be a passion, as well as another technique I pionered called augmented video, but thats another project. And here I am trying to raise the money to hire a programmer to pull all that I have learned in the last three years together and package it as a stand-alone application with an attractive UI that can be sold for under $100.
Thats what the money is for.
I'm offering some attractive perks to those who donate.
And, I am exploring the possibility of developing a plugin suite for After Effects and Photoshop, but thats down the road.
Right now pulling it all together into a cohesive application is the priority.
Not being a programmer or developer its time to hire one.
I can at this point process cut projects with this technique and I am open to doing so.
If any of you out there have a project that could be enhanced through animation of this style please contact me as I'd be happy to work with you.
The video from above looks infinitely better here: http://mediabenders.com/rotomation.html
The youtube compression is unfortunate.
