My dad, Ron Garropy had a severe stroke on Sunday, Dec 16, 2012. My mom found him on the floor in front of the door at 8:30am, we have no idea how long he had been there. He was awake but could barely speak and could not move his left side. She was terrified and called 911. They rushed him to Update Medical where they quickly operated and removed 2 of the 3 clots in his brain. He still has a small hemorrhage and swelling of the brain...so they transferred him to Neuro ICU for constant monitoring...
He is only 59 and was otherwise so healthy. We are all still in shock and heartbroken to see my dad laying in a bed, with slurred speech, and no movement on his entire left side of his body. He does know who we are and that he is in the hospital but is not aware of what happened and cant understand why he cant get out of the bed. He is still sleeping most of every day.
His road to recovery will be very long and arduous, but he is one of the stongest and most determined people I know...so I am confident he will surprise us all once he wakes up and can really begin rehab. They say it will take years to recover as much as he physically and mentally can- but they dont know my dad! He was so full of life and has so much life left to live...
My parents did NOT have any health insurance, so scary. My mom is left to care for my dad, work, and take care of the bills on her own. If you can, please help ease some of her financial burdens and worries so she can spend more time focusing on my dad and getting him healthy and rehabilitated. Please share his story and this campaign with everyone you can. And most importantly, please remember my dad and my family in your prayers.
My dad will probably be in the hospital in Syracuse for several weeks, if you would like to bring my mom a meal, magazines, snacks, etc while she is there, please call or text me and I will help you get them to her. 256-335-7664
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Amy
