WHERE

The event will be held at the Historic DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome, Georgia. With its Art-Deco marquee, French mirrored entrance hall, and Georgian interior design, the DeSoto's inventive architecture and inspiring history make it the perfect backdrop for this year's Rome Confluence event.

The historic DeSoto Theatre was the first theater in the southeast to display Sound Movies. Named for Hernando DeSoto, who was thought by many historians to have passed through the area that is now Rome in 1600, the DeSoto Theatre was completed at a cost of $110,000 and opened in August 1927. The theater seated 1,500, making it one of the seven largest movie venues in Georgia at the time.

In 1982 the DeSoto closed as a movie theater, but soon reopened as the venue for Rome's local amateur theater group. The theatre has hosted dozens of plays over more than 25 years, and it serves as one of the venues for the annual Rome International Film Festival. The DeSoto continues to be a source of entertainment in the Greater Rome area and a source of pride for Romans.

DIRECTIONS & PARKING

From Atlanta take Interstate 75 North to exit 290. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto GA-20 and follow the signs to Rome. At the 3^rd light, turn left. Then make immediate right and turn up the ramp onto GA-411. After 4^th traffic light, take the exit on the right onto GA-411S to Rome. Continue on GA-411 for approximately 25 miles. When you reach the Rome Bypass “Loop 1,” continue straight for approximately 2 more miles.  At the junction, merge right onto US-27N/GA-1N/GA-20W toward Rome. Continue for approximately 2.2 miles (becomes Turner McCall Boulevard). Then turn left onto Broad Street (at the Georgia Power building). The Historic DeSoto Theatre is approximately three blocks down Broad Street on the left (look for the marquee). Parking: Turn right at the 3rd light (shortly before you reach the DeSoto Theatre) onto W. 6th Avenue. Parking will be available at the Law Enforcement Parking Deck straight ahead for $2.00 per day.

From Birmingham take I-20 East to US 27 North. Continue on Highway 27 North to Rome. Take the Rome exit. Turn left onto Broad Street. The Historic DeSoto Theatre is approximately three blocks down on the left (look for the marquee) Parking: Turn right at the 3rd light (shortly before you reach the DeSoto Theatre) onto W. 6th Avenue. Parking will be available at the Law Enforcement Parking Deck straight ahead for $2.00 per day.

From Chattanooga take Highway 27 South to Rome. Just past Berry College, turn left onto Loop 1. Take your next right onto Riverside Parkway. At the next traffic light continue straight, crossing over Turner McCall Boulevard. At the second light, turn right onto Broad Street. The Historic DeSoto Theatre is one block down on the left (look for the marquee). Parking: Turn right at the next light (shortly before you reach the DeSoto Theatre) onto W. 6th Avenue. Parking will be available at the Law Enforcement Parking Deck straight ahead for $2.00 per day.
