Personal Space Theatrics and rogerandtom
THE COMPANY
Personal Space Theatrics is a non-profit, New York-based company that's been producing theater since 2001. PST believes that the invisible divide between performers and audience members is detrimental. Theatre isn’t a passive experience, like watching a movie. Theatre is an all-inclusive event, where the audience is just as important as the folks putting on the play. Actors aren’t reciting lines into a void; rather, they are touching the minds and hearts of a living entity that experiences the story through them.
THE SHOW
Julien Schwab’s rogerandtom was first produced by Personal Space Theatrics in 2003, as the company’s inaugural production. Since then, the show has been produced in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and most recently, Edinburgh, Scotland. Director Nicholas Cotz has worked with Schwab on many versions of the show, helping him polish the script and preparing it for its return to NYC.
Now, PST is bringing rogerandtom back to New York, to the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre at HERE, as part of HERE's Curated Rental Program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support. The opportunity is amazing, as HERE is one of the top performance spaces in all of NYC.
This is the chance rogerandtom needs and deserves. The chance to be seen and recognized by the New York theater community as an important new addition to the cultural conversation. And it is the opportunity Schwab deserves as one of America's brightest young playwrights.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking to use this campaign to raise the money we need to pay our (subsidized!) rent at HERE. HERE is offering us their spectacular space at a truly discounted rate, but that doesn't mean it's free!
$10,000 is what it will take for rogerandtom to open in SoHo this March.
