Roadkimono is free internet tool for bands where they can swapshare their gigs with other bands from different cities and countries.
The story of Roadkimono begun in one Prague´s music club. A friend of mine - guitarist from another band came to me and said that he is dreaming about a small tour around Europe and asked me how could he get started with such a trip. I just told him what I did before. I said: “Arrange one gig in Prague and find a band from abroad whose music you like. Ask them if they would like to come and play with you... Thats how you start your tour abroad - at home...”. He took a second and went with “Hm... tak ti dík, woe” which in Czech means something like “Thanx smart ass...” and we burst in laugh... Yes, it sounds a bit exalted, but next morning it was coming to my mind again and again. I began framing pictures of open network of bands from all over Europe, connected by idea of swapping and sharing gigs and the spirit of DIY. Kids with their own music can easily rock the cities just like avalanche... And we all could make it just by ourselves? That idea poisoned my mind. So then I got started.
With a small team, we are developing an application for bands of all styles and levels, ranging from Death Metal to Reggae, which will help them to find friendly bands in other cities and countries, share their gigs, hit the road and simply PLAY MORE. For the sake of music.
To start your new journey and show whatever you want, you as a band just have to follow 3 steps:
1) Arrange a gig for you and your future guest band in your local club. Book a specific date.
2) Create your show on Roadkimono as a call to other bands that did the same - arranged their shows in their towns, then post them on Roadkimono
3) Browsw other bands and their calls, choose dates and places, then swap and share gigs you like to play.
After the swap, you are supposed to play on two definite show dates - one in your town and one in the town of the band with whom you shared the shows. It´s simple as that.
Yeah ... it can change a lot, but we are still not out of the woods.
HOW WE'RE GOING TO DO IT
Fortunately, after months of work to complete a functional prototype, testing and graphics a large portion of the application is now programmed and almost ready. We have managed to fund it ourselves. But now is the moment when it would be great to have some extra support to “get craft done”. In order for the application to be ready this fall we need not only a final push but also some money for further development and smooth working during first few months of our application life. I know it's quite a huge bunch of cash, but every penny will find its exact use.
Our goal is to launch the site in the second half of September.
We would like to make the application the way we believe it should be done, not as ordinary investors want it. We believe in crowdfunding because we don't want to be forced to conclude disadvantageous agreements with people who actually do not care about bands and music, who are only interested in their profits. And we decided that the whole application will be free for any band. To our minds, a confrontation with the traditional system is always a good thing. Furthermore, campaigning on IndieGoGo is by far more fun than sitting around business meetings.
AND WHAT WILL THE FUNDING LOOK LIKE AFTERWARDS
The operation of any such app costs a lot of money. Annually much more than we are trying to ensure at this moment. Roadkimono is not an exception. We will need a partner in the future who would be willing to help us. We want to choose these partners without any hurry so that the project wouldn't run their business interests, could continue to work independently and be free of charge forever. To do this, we need our hands to be free at least in the beginning, and that is possible thanks to crowdfunding model.
So this is it, Roadmates. At this stage, we are looking to raise USD 9000. As I've already said, this money will be entirely used for the app and other necessary development and operation in the initial period. In return for your support we're offering a tool that could make band touring environment to explode. And if not, it will help you to get a gig more easily and naturally, that’s for sure. All for free and already this fall.
Therefore, if such tool seems to be useful, then it's the right time to support it now. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who is with us, believes that it makes sense, donates some cash and thus fundamentally help us to get started. We appreciate it so much.
Thanks also to those who continue to share the challenge and try to bring this effort into the world as much as we do.
The more bands will participate, the more gigs we all can swapshare.
