STAGE ONE - SHOOTING THE BANDS!
This was our sucessful 2012, Stage 1 crowdfunder. If you are lookin for our 2013 Stage 2 crowd funder for this film please go to: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/riverside-son...
The story of one of the finest music venues in the world, run by the kids, for the kids, 1985-1999. Help us to produce this music documentary about the place where Nirvana played their first European gig in 1989, where David Bowie shook the pillars on the smallest gig on his 1997 tour and where the support bands kept coming back as the headliners, as they loved the venue's intimacy so much (less so its sticky carpet!).
Filmed in full HD, the documentary will be feature length and a mixture of filmed interviews, archive footage, animation and photographs, plus lots of live music!
A beautiful and visually ambitious music documentary covering the roots of grunge to the birth of dance. Watch how fifteen years of history unfolded in a sticky, sweaty warehouse on the wrong side of town.
Newcastle upon Tyne today is a different place because of Riverside. Its legacy is the city’s vibrant independent music scene.
Please help us fund this film by choosing one of the listed ‘perks’. We have a target of $5,000 (about £3,235 UK) to raise in just 30 DAYS!
With these funds we can complete filming of interviews with the stars that played, and some of the key people who worked and hung out at Riverside. We have some name acts including BILLY BRAGG, FUGAZI and MERCURY REV who want to talk to us, and others in mind. We just have to get to them and shoot it!
Carol Lynn: Director. Regular gig goer and guitarist in Newcastle early 90’s band Puppy Fat who played at Riverside. Lecturer in Media Production. Director of a number of music videos and short films. Is brilliant. See http://vimeo.com/user1338089

Carl Taylor: Writer/Producer. Co-author of the aforementioned Riverside book. Enthusiastic Riverside gig goer and reviewer. Local council officer working with vulnerable people. Big picture thinker.
Ashley Horner: Executive Producer. Played at Riverside in bands The Edsel Auctioneer and Pale Saints. Reviewed Riverside gigs and ligged there for the in-house Paint It Red magazine. Experienced film maker.
Production Company: Pinball Films released their latest feature film BRILLIANTLOVE (aka The Orgasm Diaries USA) in 2010, with Ashley producing and directing from a screenplay by Sean Conway. The film screened at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York in 2010 and had its European Premiere at Edinburgh IFF. It has since screened at festivals around the world and was nominated at the British Independent Film Awards in 2010. IFC and Soda Pictures successfully released the film theatrically in the US and UK in 2011. http://www.pinballfilms.com
