Once upon a time, in October 2008, a publication was born. The mission of that publication was to recognize the achievements of women of African descent and to honor their positive stories of success and perseverance. Afrikan Goddess Online has been interviewing and profiling women of African descent ever since. These women invest time, money and effort into their communities through worthy causes. Some of these causes educate underprivileged children, house abused women and children, build schools in local communities, speak against female genital mutilation, rape, and other abuses against humanity. Some speak out against war, and others fight so others can live more freely. The publication has remained free to readers and relies on private donations for its financial survival. Despite its financial limitations, Afrikan Goddess Online wants to reward one woman with a special recognition for her efforts and her selfless sacrifice, next year (2012). The money we raise from this campaign will go towards funding the award. The award will be the first of its kind by an African-owned, African-run publication honoring African women and bringing attention to the positive work women are doing on the African continent and beyond.
The impact is huge! You will be helping to lend validation to the work these women do. This in turn means more children will be fed. Some willl learn a skill through education. More children will have a brighter future. Young girls will be saved from forced early marriages and the mutilations of their bodies. Women will be free from abuse. Men will be sheltered from senseless wars. Rape and domestic abuse victims will know to speak up against their attackers. We could go on and on, but we're sure you get the point. The world will be a better place for so many struggling to live the normal lives we often times take for granted. And you can be proud knowing that you contributed towards helping to make that change!
What We Need & What You Get
Its this simple! We need your money. Money donated through this campaign will go towards the award for the winner. It will be the community's contribution towards the award; outside of what we are able to raise through other venues (sponsorships and other private and corporate donations.) Our goal is to raise $2500 (through this campaign) between now and January 20, 2012, by which time a winner would have been announced. We can do it!!!! Voting is currently ongoing and we are now voting for the Top 5 who have made it so far out of an initial pool of 14 nominees. When you read what these women are doing, there is no doubt you will be touched to contribute - no matter how small your contribution. At $2500, if we can get 2500 people to donate a dollar, we have reached our goal. In the same way if we can get 250 people to donate $10, we will also reach our goal. To get you involved in this exciting and very worthy cause, we are offering you some perks in enchange for your donations. All donors will receive a "Thank You" note from the publisher and the winner, and an honorable mention on our awards website as soon as we receive notice of your donations. If you own a business (website or blog), a link will also be published on our awards website (and in the main publication) if you donate a minimum of $50. For a minimum of $100, you get all this, plus an honorable mention in our monthly newsletter which goes out to our subscribers. Regular updates will be provided by our team members to keep you informed of progress.
