Why Help Is Needed
Back in October 2012, Restoring Dignity and a group of volunteers helped to restore a refugee family of seven's apartment. This family came from Burma to the United States one year ago, and have had a great deal of difficulty obtaining their basic needs. The father suffered a severe disability, after stepping on a landmine in Burma. In addition to his disability, he also discovered that he has terminal cancer, and has been in a nursing home since a few weeks before we came and helped in their apartment. Recently, his condition has gotten worse, and he has been calling his family, asking them to come see him more, as he is dying.
His wife has been the sole provider for the family, working from noon till 11pm at a packing plant, and has been unable to visit him, except for once a week, due to her work schedule, and a lack of having a vehicle. She has been raising their 5 children, ages 3,5,10,15, and 17, by herself, which has proven to be exceptionally difficult as she works late into the night and is not home with them when they get home from school.
Since her husband's condition has gotten worse, she has felt that she needs to be by his side during his last moments, and so she took a leave of absence from work, to be with him and her children during this difficult time.
Unfortunately, being by her husband's side means that there is no income coming into the home at this time, which is where Restoring Dignity is stepping in.
The Goal
Our goal is to raise enough funds to support Mhala (the mother) and her family for two months, so they can be with and support their father during his last moments. The funds needed have been broken down in the following way:
RENT: $575
UTILITIES: $200
LAUNDRY: $20
FOOD: $300
TOILETRIES: $50
TRANSPORTATION: $50
PHONE: $70
TOTAL = $1,235 x 2 months = $2,470
What if we raise less than the goal?
If we raise less than the goal, the family will still receive all donated funds, and we will pay as many living expenses as possible to help them for the next two months.
What if we raise more than the goal?
If we raise more than the goal, all additional funds will be put towards funeral expenses. The cost of dying is in some cases more expensive than the cost of being born, much to the suprise of many people. An average funeral can cost anywhere from $7,000-$15,000, if a traditional burial is chosen. Even if cremation is chosen, there are still hundreds to thousands of dollars in costs for the cremation, having a cremation burial site within a cemetary, and the costs from the funeral home. This will be a huge burden for this family, so we are really hoping to exceed this goal, as they will need all the help they can receive to pay for these expenses.
Thank you
Thank you for your support of this family. They are one of the nicest, sweetest families that has really had very unfortunate events happen to them.
Donation Transparency
All donations will be deposited into Restoring Dignity co-founder, Hannah Wyble's Pay Pal account, and will be immediately withdrawn and used to pay all aforementioned expenes above for this family. This will be documented via photographs for each bill and expense, and will be posted to the "files" section of Restoring Dignity's Facebook Group Page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/RestoringDignityOmaha. This PDF is also available on this website, under the "gallery" tab at the bottom of the that page. It will be updated as frequently as possible. Once this site expires, all donation transparency can be found on the Restoring Dignity Omaha group site, on facebook. If you would like a copy of the finished PDF emailed to you, please email Hannah Wyble at: hwyble@live.com, and she will email it to you after all donations have been disbersed to the family.
In addition, if you are interested in contacting this family's case worker, she will be involved in overseeing that the bills/expenses are paid. Please contact me and I can give you her information: (402) 305-8139.
Eventually, Restoring Dignity will have their own Pay Pal account, once we become a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, which is in the works. Until then, this is the only way that this is possible. If the transparency of this organization can be improved in any way, please do not hesitate to contact Hannah , and improvements will be made immediately.
