How Does Indiegogo Work?

It's pretty simple:

• We set a goal
• We set a deadline
• You pledge whatever you can to help us reach that goal. Bigger pledges get bigger rewards from us (like a trip for 4 to Disney World, for example.)
• If we reach (or hopefully far exceed) our goal by the deadline, your credit card is charged, we get our funding, and you get the cool reward you chose.

—HOW ARE THE FUNDS BEING USED?

Acquired funds will be used for development costs of Requiem for the Night. The funds will cover expenses invovled in script development. This entails:

• a treatment (Completed & Registered with the WGA, West)
• first draft
• re-write and polish
• professional fees for one (possibly 2) writers.  
• script registration and copyright fees.
• establishment of an investment vehicle (a legal entity)
• hiring an attorney to draw up all investment documents and establishing the investment vehicle.

Once this campaign is successful, we would then set up a new campaign to begin raising money for pay or play deals. (For particular actors)

Your money will NOT go toward anything unrelated to the development of this project.

If we exceed our funding goal, it will carry over toward the new campaign to raise money for pay or play deals, securing talented stars and, most importantly, our ability to create an incredible vampire tale that simply has never been done before.

—WHEN CAN I EXPECT MY PERK TO BE FULFILLED?

Hey, 

Not a very dignified way to begin a letter, perhaps…but dignified is not necessarily what we’re going for here. You just need to pay attention. You just have to know that I’m going to ask you for money. Not a lot. Just what feels comfortable to you.

But, let’s start over, shall we? I’m Sirius La Croix. And if you've never heard of me, there’s a good reason. You’ll learn those reasons later. 

We have a problem. A big one. Lucky for me and my…friends…you can be part of the solution. Here’s the thing…   

Vampire movies these days are not to the standard of reality. In your terms, they simply…suck. 

Let me explain. 

You’ve watched all the popular flicks in the genre. Don’t tell me you haven’t. You’ve seen Twilight. You’ve seen Interview With a Vampire. You’ve seen From Dusk Till Dawn, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (hilarious by the way), and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. 

You’ve probably even seen some of the terrible vampire films… films like BloodRayne or Vampire in Brooklyn. 

(For these last two, I imagine that like Twilight’s Bella Swan, you did a good job of blocking painful, unnecessary things from your memory.) 

I know you have. You’re a fan of real horror films no doubt…but there’s something special about vampires. 

Isn’t there? 

Except, watching all these popular vampire movies is like saying you’ve tried all the “regular” dating web sites. You’ve fantasized and flirted…and you know how frustrating it can be when every date you go on ends up feeling like the one before. Where is the passion? Where is the sizzle? Where is the romance? 

Here’s my point. 

There is a new vampire film project and it’s unlike any other film project ever made in the history of vampire films. 

That’s a huge promise. Right? 

I imagine it makes you curious. I imagine you’re intrigued even though you feel like you shouldn’t be. You want to get to the end. You want to get to the punch-line and see where and how you’re going to get let down. 

But here’s the thing, how can you be let down when the person speaking to you right now is nothing like anyone you’ve ever met? How can you be disappointed when the promises I am making you could touch your very soul? 

Passionate, and unquestionably unorthodox…. 

This film project is one that I guarantee will seduce your mind and have you all but signing over your body and soul…leaving you breathless, pledging to undertake any task in order to see it succeed. 

And there will be tasks. For you…when you join us. 

You’ll come to understand that the price you pay will actually be for something you genuinely, deeply crave. 

I know you’ve got questions. I would if I were you. 

You are probably wondering: 

• Who is Sirius LaCroix? Why should I listen to him…let alone trust him? 

• What’s all this about a…what did he say? A type of vampire film that no one has ever attempted to produce before? What does he mean by that? 

• Why would Sirius or his “friends” be interested in what I have to offer? I’m not rich.   

These are some basic questions you deserve some answers to. I know you’ll have even more than these…and rest assured, you have my personal word that they will be answered as well.   

I’ve got all the answers for you – and a whole lot more. 

You’ll come to understand the totality of what we need…and what I am offering you.   

In return, you’ll offer to give, and allow me to keep, some small thing that you find valuable. Of course you will offer money…almost any amount you choose. But, it will also be something deeper, more meaningful.   

What would you find of consequence? What matters to you?   

I think I have you pegged. You are the type that enjoys stories, narratives…tall tales, as well as dark and twisted fantasies. That’s why I can guarantee your satisfaction when you learn, that once I have a bit of you… 

You will be allowed to wander in a realm of my making.

And, in that realm you’ll be allowed to be a god or goddess of the night…interacting and creating…adding to my world as the stories inside of you unfold. In all of my eight-hundred years, I’ve never allowed strangers into my fantasies. 

I will never allow someone uninvited...never allow outsiders in. That’s why I’ve decided to open up just a little and permit you in…to get to know you…the real you…and then you really won’t be a stranger anymore, will you? 

Imagine what that may mean to your life… 

How will that affect you? What will it mean to truly enter someone else’s world?   

Oh but, you can learn more about that later.   

Besides, I promised to let you in on a little information about me. Didn’t I?  

Why, exactly should you trust me?   

Let me tell you a little story… 

I wasn’t actually born Sirius LaCroix. I took that name many hundreds of years after I was shoved, screaming from my mother’s womb. I never knew her. My father told me she died immediately after I was placed upon her breasts. 

The loneliness I felt growing up completely haunted me. My father never remarried and though he took lovers from time to time...they never cared for me.

I had no one! No one! 

Think about that for a minute. 

Can you imagine the hurt, the pain and the sorrow that took their toll on my mind? Do you think you can fathom the inner ache I felt? And tell me, do you think you can you comprehend the belief that ran through my mind…that life was cruel…that life is not truly life…that all was dark with no hope, and no future? 

Have you ever felt such soul crushing sadness? 

In any case, I came to be from the union of a fletcher and a woman that kept the home…and who knew something of working in the field and of herbs. They called France their home.   

In the year I was born, French and Spanish crusaders united against the Almohads at Toledo. That year marked the end of Moslem power in Spain…and Frederick II crowned himself the Roman Catholic king.   

That was so long ago.   

So long ago. Let me tell you a secret…some people begin to feel an odd sensation of sadness as the sun begins to set. Yet the sun set for me before you were born…and for me…has never risen. Can you imagine the sensation of sadness that entails? 

I would tell you more, but I am sure at the moment you find it preposterous, absurd, fantastic. Fake.   

“Like…what the hell?” 

Still, the reason I am breaking silence, why I am saying anything at all…why I am calling you to join me…is because everything you ever knew about vampires is simply wrong!   

In fact, what people think they know…and the horribly mistaken, outlandish stories, books and yes…movies that have been produced over the years, have only perpetuated lies about my kind.   

That’s why I have to do something about it. It’s not so much that I cannot stand lies or liars…I’ve been one myself. It’s much more than that. It’s that I am a glutton for attention.   

But really, come now…if you want to know if I can be trusted just listen to my personal assistant, Jade, whom I expect you will come to know intimately…recently observed: 

“When I first came to know Sirius…the dread lord…I was young, probably younger than you are now. From that very first moment, I loved him. I knew that good luck had sought me out. For here was a man so devastatingly beautiful that I could not take my eyes off of him. 

Who was I that he would even notice me? Yet, he paid me such attention that to this day…I am bound to him, to his gaze, to everything about him. So, when you ask me if you can trust him… 

Well, I can tell you that I entrusted my body and soul to him. 

Is he a simply delicious man that seeks attention? Why yes. He sought mine and I gave it to him willingly. Something you must understand about a lover such as he, however. No matter how much you give…he shall always take more. And, you will, of course, love him for it. Trust has very little to do with it. It’s more about…passion.” – Jade

Almost as an afterthought, Jade left a note on her computer that I decided to share with you. She had sent it to a new Child of the Night. It’s telling, I think.

“Before I forget, in case someone forgot to let you know…life is never fair. That’s why no one has ever made a film that depicts us as we truly are…that tells the story of where we came from. Sirius, at long last, is going to change that.” – Jade  

Jade is right. It’s true. I am going to change all that. 

The film studios have put out some good vampire films of course, and a lot of terrible ones…all of them based on nothing but old legends, tales, and the fevered fantasies of a syphilis ridden Irishman.   

But how will I do it if I don’t have my own film studio? How will I accomplish the making of a film that you will not only enjoy but that you may have a hand in crafting…that will tell the final truth and that everyone you know may be able to view in your local cinema? How will I do it without the backing of a major Hollywood studio? 

Surely you have heard of films made by mere mortals that have succeeded where all others have failed? Surely you have heard of Mad Max, Paranormal Activity, El Mariachi, and Napoleon Dynamite?   

(Hell, my pets…even “I” have seen Napoleon Dynamite.) 

It can be done. With your financial (and for some, creative) help, I will bring Hollywood and the entire horror genre to its knees.   

I can already hear some of you whining, “but, how?” 

There is magic in minutia, darlings.   

Some of you may also wonder, if this man has lived for ages…how is it that he and his minions have need of "my" money? Surely he is wealthy in his own right. 

The answer to this is: "of course!" 

Of course, I have money, carefully saved and carefully invested throughout the years. Yet this isn't the point. I am so tired of doing everything alone. And so…I am making you a part of this venture. I am making you a partner of sorts, don't you see. 

I promise you that when you join me…the results of our union will be more than you hoped for. More than you dreamed. If you are honest with yourself, you know that you are eager for me to succeed.   

Because, my success is your success. You and I both know that there are those who enjoy disappointment.   

You shouldn’t be one of them.   

There is something about being a part of something larger than yourself. When you decide to give yourself over to something you might as well do it thoroughly. And, of course, I demand nothing less than everything you are willing to give. 

“If you must know what your money will initially be used for…I’ll tell you. It’s very simply really. Sirius must hire an excellent writer…to tell an exceptional story. 

They say the Writer’s Guild of America has great writers and all of them are very well paid. We all have talents you know and Sirius, of course, never pays someone less than they are worth. 

Having to change lives over and again, Sirius is no stranger to crafting stories. Thus, he understands the value of creativity.” – Jade 

I shall need a treatment, a first draft, perhaps a re-write and then a polish. It may take more than one writer. We’ll have to see. But I demand the best because I want you to have the very best as well. 

You deserve it. 

Of course, I shall need more than a writer. I shall also need to form a production company and will need a lawyer. Why? Because, lawyers normally do whatever they can to win. I respect that.   

I always win. 

Let me tell you why you need to listen to me. I know that you’re afraid that you will live all your short, dreary life and never realize how much you could have lived…and didn’t. I know that at this very moment your heart is aching for love, passion and adventure to consume you. To eat you up! To burn within your breast with an eternal flame. 

Don’t tell me your heart doesn’t beat…waiting for the glorious moment when you actually believe you’re alive. 

Here’s my point… 

I understand the pain of being alone. I identify more than you know with how it feels to want to be seen, to have someone near you, to understand the depths of you…to want a small bit of warmth…even if it is nothing more than the flame of a small candle.   

I also know that you and I…we must live deliberately.   

Superficiality wearies us. The tired games that are played around us make us yearn for a deep abyss in order that we might find rest. And still our hearts keep us from it! Each beat must remind you that blood pumps through your veins. Each second that ticks by is an eternity that we must wait …until our passions are satiated.   

It has been said that if we could live without passion, we could, perhaps, find peace. If a lack of passion is peace…then my soul is tortured. As if I was on fire from within, I burn with a simple desire. I wish to exist eternally.   

There is, I am sure, an existence beyond this. Of what use is our creation if we were meant to only exist here? But this place, this planet, this Earth you and I dwell upon is the place I call home…and I shall not leave it.   

I wish to show you my world. I guarantee that the night I show you in the film we make will hold such wonders as only the children of the night have ever seen.   

Where are we now? 

We are poised to begin development of this vampire movie. We are ready to begin crafting the story Mr. Stoker, Anne Rice and Stephenie Meyer never knew. We’re ready for you to join us and begin a journey you won’t soon forget.
