Why is Repeat Attenders being made?

Like many of the contributors of this documentary, I have a great passion for theatre, and the community that makes it. The first musical I saw was Cats when I was 13 years old. I walked into the theatre, and was transformed into another world. I didn't really understand what was happening, but I loved it. I was hooked.

`Throughout my high school years, I would go to the theatre with friends, and wait at the stage door for photos and autographs. These actors were my celebrities.

Even though I was bullied for being part of the school musical, and having mainly showtunes playing in my Walkman(!), I knew I could always rely on the fact that there were people like me out there that shared the same love and interests. Theatre People.

Now in my 30's, I want to share this community of people with the world. They are generally misunderstood and misrepresented. Yes they are kooky, but that is what is special about them (me/us!).

For the past 13 years I have been working in Film and Television, and wanted to go out on a limb and produce my own work. This is truly an independent production in every sense of the word.

To date, it has been fully funded by my personal savings, and my trusty (if not overdrawn) credit card. I am so determined for this film to be seen, that I am looking to the world of Indiegogoers to help with the next stage in production.

The Really Useful Group (as one example) have been amazing supporters of the project, and have donated the use of footage with full clearance at no cost.

So where will your money be spent?

Even though we have already shot in Germany, New York and London, we still have loads of interviews and general vision to get. Indiegogo funding will be spent on the following production costs:

  • Transport and Accommodation*

  • Crew hire (Camera Operator and Gear)

  • Equipment costs (Lighting, Radio Mics, Hard Drives, Monitor & Batteries)

  • Location fees (Local businesses and theatres)

  • Filming Permit fees (Local Council and Government Permits)

  • Misc (Kraft Services, Overtime Costs)

  • Costs for posting Perks

  • Indiegogo fees (7% of total received)

*Flights are being covered by frequent flyer points that family and friends have kindly donated. Accommodation will cover Camera Operator only. The Producer and Co-Producer will be couch hopping with friends and family! A car is only required for the Los Angeles shoot.

Why is £7,800 the goal?

We actually need £10,000 to complete the all filming in the US, but £7800 will get us to New York at least, and then grants and sponsorship can be saught later on to cover the costs of San Diego shoot. We have to keep the momentum going, these are amazing stories, and there is real interest in these kinds of charcters in documentary at the moment. If we don't receive at least £7800, the film gets nothing, nadda, zip, zilch.

The Community

The Make a Difference Trust - TheatreMAD are on board with Repeat Attenders, and we have been working closely together for the past 2 years to build on the community aspect of the film, and the charity.

1,000s of pounds per year are raised for charity by West End and Broadway theatre arists and theatre professionals, with audiences largely from the theatre fan community.

These fans make a huge contribution to the industry (hotel costs, tickets, merchandise, refreshments, word of mouth). Quite frankly, some shows wouldn't survive without the theatre fan buzz that they create.

If you have selected a perk that gives an additional 20% of your money to TheatreMAD, this is achievable through the UK Government Gift Aid Scheme. 20% of our goal if reached, will go direct to The Make a Difference Trust, because of you. If we don't hit our target, sadly like us, they receive nothing.

So how can you help spread the word about this film and this campaign?

Indiegogo has some great campaign sharing tools for Facebook and Twitter, so if you feel passionate about his film being made, help us spread the word out there. I know I always get a kick out of sharing fresh theatre news, so be loud and proud about this new theatre documentary!

Like, Share, Comment, Tweet, Retweet and Post to your hearts content. This campaign will only be successful if you believe it is worthwhile supporting, and share that passion with the rest of the world. Do you have connections in the media? Drop me an email: mark@hellodooley.com.

PERKS (the fun stuff)

Theatre Tokens

Theatre Tokens run by The Society of London Theatre, have been a huge support of Repeat Attenders. People who love theatre, love Theatre Tokens because they can also be spent at the TKTS booth in Leicester Square to purchase a half price ticket.

Theatre Tokens NEVER expire, so even if you don't live in the UK, hang onto them for your next London holiday, or give them as a gift to someone who does live here. Click on the Theatre Tokens logo above, to see what theatres accept them as payment (over 240 theatres in the UK accept them).

We are producing these exclusive button pins for this campaign. We wanted to have a unique perk that appealed to the theatre fan in us all. We think they are pretty cute. As soon as the sampling is completed, we will post a photo here so you can see what they will look like once they go into production.

For anybody that contributes over £10 to the campaign, you will be eligible to be in the running for a Special Bonus Perk.

With thanks to TheatreMAD, you will receive two tickets to a West End show, a cast signed program, and a meet and greet with the cast.

The show is still TBC, but I will post updates on here once it has been confirmed.

This Perk must be claimed within 1 year of the start of this Indiegogo campaign, and is for the West End only (flights, transfers, expenses, accommodation are not included).

This Perk will only become available once the Repeat Attenders goal has been reached in full.

We will announce how the person is to be selected. We might choose the winner at a stage door, or box office and post a video here of the lucky person. I will keep you posted.

My family, friends and superfans that have supported this project.

YOU! Thank you for just spending the time to check out this campaign. We think it will be a really interesting, entertaining, moving documentary, and we hope you do to.

Although we are risking not setting this campaign as flexible (where you receive any amount contributed), we are quietly confident we will reach our goal.

Please wish us luck, we need it.
