Hi! I'm Troy DeVolld, and I've been a producer for popular reality television shows for more than a decade. Shows like Dancing With the Stars, The Surreal Life, Flipping Out, Basketball Wives and more.
While I've seen endless interviews with writers and producers of sitcoms, dramas and features, the people behind your favorite reality shows seldom get any time in the sun, often because the work they do is, when best executed, invisible.
REMEMBER, WE'RE NOT HERE is a feature-length documentary about those clever and creative folks behind the scenes, how they came to work in this wild genre, and how they feel about the industry as well as fans and critics of their work. The doc will also feature guest appearances from many folks on the other side of the scripted fence who'll share the ways reality television has affected them and their own work.
With my book, REALITY TV: AN INSIDER'S GUIDE TO TV'S HOTTEST MARKET, I managed to demystify the process by which reality shows are produced without robbing them of their magic. What I hope to accomplish with REMEMBER, WE'RE NOT HERE is to share, through humor and confession, the triumphs and heartbreaks of lives spent behind the scenes in the popular but often underappreciated arena of reality television.
What I'm Asking for and Why
The $25k I'm seeking, combined with the money, time and equipment/expendables I've already sunk into the project, will cover the taping of our interviews and get us through edit. Anything we raise over and above that will be pumped into making a more polished product. Truth is, doubling that mark would be great, but if we've got to go in stages, so be it.
If, for some reason, we don't reach our goal, the partially completed content will be used to raise the remaining funds needed or, as plan "B", parted out into a series of engaging web shorts.
What's in it for you? Plenty of fun rewards including signed copies of REALITY TV: An INSIDER'S GUIDE TO TV'S HOTTEST MARKET, consultation time with me on your own reality projects, or even a thank-you lunch at the famous Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge.
Are You Sure You Know What You're Doing?
Yep. In 2012, I'll pass 200 hours of finished product as a producer, so no worries there. I have a very specific vision for this documentary, which can be produced for a fraction of what a single episode of reality television costs.
I have a deep respect for the genre, getting things out on time, and don't believe in asking anyone to do things for free. As experienced as I may be, I'm not a one-man band, and your contribution at any level helps pay experienced professionals for their time with camera, sound, and editing.
Sounds Great, But I Don't Have the Bread
You can help just by getting the word out about REMEMBER: WE'RE NOT HERE to friends, family and others or liking the film's facebook page. Thanks!
