This campaign is over, but we're still raising money! You can donate directly at our fiscal sponsor's site: https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/fiscal/profile?id=7019
Thank you so much, and thanks to everyone who made this campaign a great success! We are overwhelmed by your generosity and support.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A FILM BABY!
Having this film baby means the world to us, but we can only do it with your help!
Jennie is soon to finish her graduate degree at Columbia University and begin her career as a proud film-parent, and Mr. Fix needs to settle down (briefly) and make a movie with Jennie.
With your support, RELICS will help launch Jennie's first feature film, Fit for Life.
WHAT IS THIS FILM ABOUT?
RELICS is the story of a hapless vacuum cleaner salesman who tries to sell his Miractopus cleaning machine to an ailing woman and her skeptical daughter, on the day that the woman asked her daughter to help her end her own life. (It really is a comedy! Sort of…)
RELICS is about one woman’s desire to decide her own fate, about laughing in the face of loss, about the strange forms a generous and heroic act can take, and about believing in the power of a meaningful connection.
This film will have moments of hilarity and of heartbreaking sorrow. We hope viewers will feel compassion for all of the characters, as well as for themselves and whatever losses they have suffered or may suffer… because we are all children of loss, and sometimes there is nothing we can do but laugh, and cry, about that.
THE BABY REGISTRY – TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
It's expensive to make a real film, baby! Thanks to our fiscal sponsorship with Fractured Atlas, most of your donation is tax-deductible – unlike all of those baby shower gifts you bought last year.
Many people are donating their time, energy, and resources to bring this baby into the world because they believe in it, but there are costs we cannot avoid. We wish to pay a nominal fee to the cast and some of the key technical crew – all professionals. We will shoot in the beautiful Hudson Valley; this means vehicle rentals for people and for equipment, gas, housing, food, and location costs. The Production Designer needs to create the Miractopus cleaning machine prop and create the slightly magical world of the characters.
If you have more questions about where your money would go, please contact us for a complete report! We are fiscally responsible parents.
CASTING NEWS COMING SOON
Casting Director Rori Bergman is helping us approach some incredibly talented actors. As soon as they are confirmed, we will let you know!
The mother and daughter in RELICS are part of the director’s feature script Fit for Life, which was recently named a finalist in the CineStory screenwriting competition, was nominated for the Zaki Gordon Award for Excellence in Screenwriting, and was short-listed for the Cine Qua Non lab.
Thanks to Ko-Rely Pi, RELICS was a finalist for an HBO development award, and it won a SoundLounge Award worth $2000 for sound mixing.
With your help, RELICS will get out to many festivals. By next year, it will surely be throwing cheerios at a theater near you.
GRATITUDE, NEED, AND OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
We are required to have a "flexible" fundraising campaign so that your contribution will be tax-deductible - but we truly cannot make the movie without these funds!
With that said, we are deeply grateful for whatever support you can give. Spreading the word also helps tremendously. Please pass our film baby along to anyone who might want to give it some love!
