Are you ready to help change the world through creativity?
My name is Brian Ide. I am a filmmaker and a married father of two who has been fortunate to have spent the last 13 years in the entertainment industry. In those 13 years, I have become passionate about finding ways for Hollywood to look outside of itself and positively impact the global community. This passion led me to create a philanthropic film program called ReDistribute.
ReDistribute is a revolutionary approach to the way films are made and distributed. We make films, put them in local theaters and then once the theaters take their fee, 100% of the ticket sales that would typically go to investors, producers, distributors, actors, etc. go immediately to schools in those communities. Period. End of story.
We recognize that every community is different and every school requires different types of support. That’s why ReDistribute leaves it to the schools to decide how they want to spend the funds they receive. Need a new playground? New band uniforms? New instruments? Want to start an art program? The schools, themselves, choose where the help will go…without any strings. This is the next generation of school fundraising.
One of the most important elements of ensuring ReDistribute’s success is to make a great film and that starts with telling a great story. Our first film is titled “The Bell Ringers Club & The Galleon Gold” and is written by Todd Calgi Gallicano. It’s an exciting children's adventure movie that follows seven young explorers who pool their unique talents and their geocaching skills in a hunt for one of the greatest lost treasures in history. But this isn’t just a movie…we use our story as an opportunity to educate our audience about American history.
How do I know this approach works? As a director, I successfully rallied community involvement in my previous feature film and ended up being #1 in the box office in our area. Duplication of that success in only 200 theaters (a typical film opens in over 2,000 theaters), would generate over $1.5 million for schools throughout the country. 400 theaters will double that!
Because of the generosity of all of the cast, crew, producers, director, writer and post-production team who have offered to work for a fraction of their typical salaries, this film can be produced for a minimum budget of $350,000. Of course, raising additional funds will enable us to increase all of the bells and whistles that audiences love: bigger actors, awe-inspiring aerial photography, more special effects and even a few more hot meals for the crew. 100% of the ENTIRE cost of producing and releasing ReDistribute's films will be funded by individual and corporate donors.
Our goal is to maximize the amount of money that will be given to schools, so that's why this film is entirely "Investor Free.” Every crew position, cast position, designer, supplier, etc. will either be directly donated or its cost will be covered by funds raised through this IndieGoGo campaign. By removing the investors and theatrical distribution companies, we are able to share the money that would typically go to these groups with schools across the country. We are able to do this because of relationships that we have developed with both national theater chains and independent cinemas.
We realize that doing good is a reward unto itself, but we also want our supporters to be able to take part in the excitement of the filmmaking process. To that end, we have created a litany of gifts/experiences to acknowledge your generous contribution to our effort.
We are thankful for our success in partnering with Giant, Magellan, Hilton Worldwide, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, New Balance and American Airlines for in-kind donations and we know more will be required as we prepare to begin filming. We are also excited that a large number of successful crew members of ABC's hit show “Revenge” have offered to share their talents for this film. But before we are able to utilize those donations and crew members, we must first have the funding for the production itself.
We have one shot at this! Although $350,000 is a small amount to shoot a movie, we are fully aware that it is a huge (but very attainable) amount to raise in the crowdfunding world. If we don't raise 100% of our funds then we will not receive a dime!
There are two simple steps you can make to help us use creativity to entertain and educate children across the country, while also supporting our schools with the funds they need to help those children succeed.
1) Take a look at the levels of support and find one that works best for you (enjoy your rewards in the process).*
2) Share! Share! Share! Help us spread the word. Our network can produce and distribute a great movie, but we need your network to make it successful. And our success translates to support for the education programs in your community. Every tweet, email, Facebook post or like, phone call, letter, blog, article and interview helps get us closer to yelling “Action” this summer and releasing the film early next year.
This is a Hollywood feature film for your community, made possible by your community. We have 40 days before the funding window closes. Let's reinvent how movies are made and change lives in the process!
Thanks so much,
Brian Ide (Founder/Director)
