WE DID IT!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU from the bottom of our overflowing hearts. We are so inspired and humbled by the support we've received from Wornettes all over the world. With your contributions, we know this issue of WORN will be our very best ever.
Now that we've reached our goal, any amount over $5,000 will go to three very specific places:
- An honorarium to our production manager Laura Kloepfer, who has worked tirelessly to produce the new layout for WORN;
- Honarariums to our consultants, an organization called Lateral Strategists, who have been an invaluable source of help with the redesign;
And finally, any remaining funds will go back into the production of WORN Fashion Journal.
The IndieGoGo campaign will stay up until we finish our alloted time - 28 more days! - and it is currently the ONLY place you can pre-order Issue 15 of WORN. If you want to be first to get your hands on the new WORN, or if you'd like to purchase a new subscription, or if you want one of our remaining friendship bracelets, this is the place to do it.
Again, thank you, thank you, and once more for the cheap seats in the back THANK YOUUUUU.
Who are we?
WORN Fashion Journal is an independent print publication based in Toronto, Canada. WORN is a completely different kind of fashion publication – instead of writing about trends or what to buy, WORN looks at the personal stories, politics, histories, cultures, and subcultures of fashion.
WORN began as a side project by Serah-Marie McMahon while she was a student at Concordia University. A small staff would meet in her apartment for one weekend and put the issue together. Seven years later, the staff has grown to over thirty Wornettes and our readership is in the thousands. Our editors and readers come from all over the world – from Boston to Berlin, from Spain to Singapore, people are constantly finding, reading, and contributing to WORN Fashion Journal.
What are we asking for?
Our readers have told us they keep their issues of WORN at record-breaking rates. Over 97% of WORN readers keep their issues forever. Our content is timeless and always relevant. We believe it makes perfect sense for our readers to want to hang on to their issues of WORN forever.
We believe a thicker, perfect-bound edition reflects the true value of WORN. It’s a prestige object our readers should be able to stack on a bookshelf, keep safe in a purse, or display proudly on a coffee table.
We believe this new format is a necessary step for WORN. We are no longer a group of friends working in a living room; we’re a real business that makes a product we believe in with all our hearts. We want the outside of WORN to reflect the inside.
Where will the money go?
WORN needs $5,000 to complete this project. The breakdown is as follows:
The additional fee for perfect binding and extra pages is $2,000 over our standard printing bill.
The new edition of WORN weighs more and will incur further shipping costs. We require $2,000 to cover the increase in shipping costs.
The new size of WORN will require different shipping supplies. We have the material necessary to ship out the old version of WORN, but we need $1,000 to purchase sturdier envelopes for durable shipping to WORN readers all over the world.
