Rare Monk began as a group of college students with a common interest in simply playing music. Since then, we have recorded and self-released two records, played a number of festivals including SXSW, had our music featured on ESPN, Fuse, Dew Tour, and DC Shoes, filmed a music video, and completed three successful U.S. tours, covering over fourteen states. And all of this we have done without the support and financial backing of major record labels, booking agencies or management companies. Although DIY has worked for us in the past, for the release of our first full length record, "Sleep/Attack" we have decided to take things to the next level. With the help of the wonderful people at Ninkasi Brewing (www.ninkasibrewing.com), we are going to have the album pressed on vinyl. Unfortunately, the costs for the pressing the record, as well as producing our other upcoming merch, has exceeded our ability to simply Do It Ourselves.
We have set up this pre-sale campaign in order to help cover the costs of pressing an album and creating merch for our fans. Anything over our goal of $3000 will go straight towards paying for gas as we trudge across the country for our fourth U.S. tour. We will be covering over 20 states in 30 days as we make our Midwest and East Coast debut before heading down towards the insanity of SXSW in Austin, TX and back up through the West Coast.
One of the main reasons we are so excited for this record is because it was our first time in the studio working with a producer as well as audio engineer. The album was recorded in Camus, WA at Miracle Lake Studios by Skyler Norwood, an amazing individual who has worked with bands such as Horse Feathers, Blind Pilot and TalkDemonic. In addition to what we consider the best material that we've produced, the album features some seriously amazing artwork done by Chris Bigalke of Showdeer (www.showdeer.com).
And if you personally can't spare the cash at the moment (which we understand all too well), you can help us by simply spreading the word about our campaign, our music or just how sexy Isaac looks in a jean jacket.
Thank you for supporting us over the last four years! We never expected things would take us this far and we have every single one of you to thank for it.
See you in 2013...
