The Czarnecki Family
This is a family who chose to live without plumbing and electricity in a simple home built by their Amish neighbors. Because they lived off the grid, their house was uninsurable.
The Czarneckis live a simple lifestyle, with a bare minimum of possessions, so that they can stay true to their passions: writing and reading poetry, publishing hand-stitched books of poetry and prose, living close to the land, and homeschooling their kids.
Michael travels the US giving readings and running workshops on poetry, memoir writing, and small press publishing. Literally thousands of people have been inspired by Michael’s programs to write more, create more, live more. He has been called Michael Poetseed because of his lifelong commitment to being an “Encourager.”
Meanwhile, his wife Carolyn manages home and hearth, as well as the business end of the publishing company. Their children have contributed by stitching books, and when they were very small, threading needles!
Our Goal
The family’s Amish neighbors have volunteered to do a house-raising if we can gather the money to buy the materials:
- Foundation work $1,000
- Lumber for shell of house $10,000
- Roofing $1,200
- Insulation $5,500
- Interior lumber and flooring $2,700
- Windows and doors $2,300
