Put a hat on the baby!
An effort to ensure that every baby born in MHI's clinic in Uganda has a hat to wear and to raise fund for vitial supplies.
Please note that the babies are not hatted immediately after birth and these hats are gifted when the family prepares to leave the birth clinic.
How does it work?
You buy an infant hat from me and donate it right back.
Both the hat and the $5 it costs goes straight to MHI
Your $5 will go to provide LIFESAVING supplies to the clinic
I will crochet each hat so that the new baby has a soft handmade item to keep (oh boy I hope to be busy!)
You can include a note to the new Mother letting her know who was kind enough to provide some warmth for her new baby.
You make a difference in the life of a baby, prehaps even save a life.
Many of you will have watched the Kony2012 video last year and while it failed in it's endeavor to have that monster brought to justice, it did highlight the plight of the people in Northern Uganda. As often is the case in war, the women and children suffered the greatest, held captive as sex slaves or conscripted into Kony's army of child soldiers. We can't begin to fathom the horrors they experienced, the survivors are scarred both physically and emotionally. Abducted as children, they disappeared but they need to know they are no longer invisible children.
Mother Health International's Earth Birth Clinic in Atiak serves these women everyday.
This is the population who were the main target of the LRA's brutality in Uganda.
Understaffed, underfunded and operating on the skills of the volunteer midwives and Traditional Birth Attendants they are doing something no one else is. They offer a safe place, kindness and gentle holistic support to women. With the nearest hospital being over 2 hours away and running way over capacity, the Birth clinic is a haven for the community.
With some of the highest maternal & neonatal mortality rates in the world Uganda is not a safe place to give birth. But we can change that. One birth at a time, one healthy baby at a time. We can show these women kindness in their most vulnerable period, they can be treated with love and dignity like every woman should be.
We can acknowledge that we see them.
