Providing captioned text for a Kurt Vonnegut play in London.

Help us provide captioned text so we can enable anyone that is deaf, deafened or hard of hearing to access the production too.

Introductions.

Hello, I am presenting KURT VONNEGUT'S magnificent play HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDA JUNE at The Old Red Lion Theatre in London, UK.

It runs from Tuesday 30th October to Saturday 24th November 2012.

The captioned performance is on Friday 23rd November

ANT STONES, artistic director of the collective TEA FUELLED is directing and me (GEMMA LLOYD) is producing; I produce theatre, occasionally film, cast a lot and run act up

Plottings.

I believe that theatre should be accessible to everyone and right now, that doesn't always happen.

We would like to have our production of Happy Birthday Wanda June captioned so that for anyone that happens to be deaf, deafened or hard of hearing can enjoy the performance as much as everyone else can.

We are collaborating with STAGETEXT, a registered charity that provides captioning and live speech-to-text services in theatres.

Stagetext are providing their equipment to us free of charge but we need to come up with the remaining funds so we can pay for someone to caption the play.

The Outcome.

The Old Red Lion Theatre is one of the most famous theatre/pubs in London, in fact the pub is actually one of the oldest in London. If you like reading about history as much as I do, have a look here

The Old Red is the only theatre in London that myself and Ant could see the play working in. I produced NAOMI WALLACE'S play ONE FLEA SPARE to great success last year at The Old Red and know the average audiences well.

It is still rare to have captioned performances in Fringe Theatre, we want to change this and hope you'll be able to help us out so that more and more people can enjoy the theatre that London is so famous for.

Ways you can help.

It's tough asking for money at the best of times... no one really likes being asked and it's uncomfortable doing the asking.

At the same time, if you share the same passion as us to make theatre as accessible as possible then if you could help in anyway we would be extremely grateful.

There are a lot of perks in return for your donations.  If a miracle happens and we succeed in raising more than we need to pay for the captioning, we will make a hefty donation to STAGETEXT who do an incredible job making theatre more accessible.

If you cannot spare any funds, there are so many more ways you can assist us.

Share our campaign on Facebook, Twitter or tell a friend or colleague via email, just remember to come back and share from this page each time.

And lastly, it's great to meet you and thank you for your time whilst read this, it means a lot to us and of course, let's all raise a glass to the late great Mr Vonnegut.
