Hello! I'm so sorry I haven't updated you all in a while. I've been super busy with school and finals are coming up very soon! Grrr. In a week, school will be over for this year and summer vacation will finally be here. You all might be wondering what I am doing this summer... :) As of right now, I plan on putting all my time and energy into theatre/film/acting. I have a summer internship at The Theatre Lab at the Firehouse Theatre Project and some pretty amazing things will happen at FTP this summer (including Rocky Horror Picture Show....ahhh!). To add on, I'm heading up to NYC for an intensive. I also have some "mini projects" going on now and this summer. You can find out more about them at: www.natashaYliu.com .
You all might be wondering how I had enough $$$ to pay for the intensive (because I'm saving up every cent for IAA). To be honest, I was thinking about not doing the intensive anymore and putting the money towards IAA tuition/expenses, but I paid for the intensive long before I even auditioned for IAA and the money deposited towards it was, of course, non-refundable. Why is everything non-refundable nowadays? :P Well, on the bright side, I will be learning much and will get to see if I can survive NYC alone on a super tight budget. :)
Again, thanks so much for all your support so far and have a great summer!
Hi guys! Thanks so much for the support you all have given me. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry I haven't been able to update much lately...I've been super busy and stressed with school and extracurricular work (theatre.film!) I'm currently at 13 funders...which is really unlucky. I'm hoping it will go up to 14 soon, because it has been at 13 for almost over a week (last week it just went up and up each day...and it froze this week at 13).....and 13 is scary and very unlucky.
Who will be the person to bring it up to 14? ;)
Hello there! My name is Natasha Liu and I am an actress, currently based in Richmond, VA. You can check out more of my recent or past projects, as well as my resume on: www.natashayliu.com .
In addition to acting in my area, I am also studying theatre at a magnet/governor's high school for the arts in my area and hold a 4.43 GPA (on a 4.5 scale). Though I like my current school, I really feel as though I am not getting intense enough acting training in the theatre department as well as a diverse enough variety of academic courses. In short, I am extremely dedicated to my studies in the arts and academics and love learning. I would like to be able to grow much more as an actress and student.
I was recently accepted into the prestigious, Interlochen Arts Academy, "the world's first and foremost fine arts boarding high school" as a theatre performance student.
The school gives young artists a chance to learn, be immersed in their focus area, and focuses on artistic and academic excellence. It offers many courses my school and area, do not offer (trust me, it's pretty difficult to find a classes such as "Republic on Trial" and "Screenwriting" in the community, let alone in any high school). Students get to work and learn in state of the art environments and are educated by some of the most knowledgeable teachers in the nation. Some masterclass instructors that Interlochen theatre students have been fortunate enough to learn from include: Sutton Foster, Victoria Clarke, and Heather Headley. To add on, some notable alumni of Interlochen include: Josh Groban, Norah Jones, Jewel, and Felicity Huffman.
That being said, the school is an amazing opportunity for me to grow as an actress as well as a student and would be a life changing experience; what other high schools offer Psychological Literature and Stage Movement as classes?
Though I am EXTREMELY thankful for the help Interlochen ($34,000 in aid), my grandparents ($2,500), and my parents ($4,500), who are in financial hardship, have given me, that total amount, plus all my own savings and money I can make by work before September, is, unfortunately, still not enough for me to be able to go to Interlochen!
By contributing to this campaign, you will be opening many great opportunities in my career that would otherwise never have been there, will be making me a more competitive applicant when applying to colleges, and will significantly aid in my growth as a student and an artist.
Furthermore, I am going to go back to Richmond someday to continue working as an actress and hope to teach people what I've learned through this invigorating experience.
You will also save my hardworking family from losing $2,500. A mandatory $2,500 deposit for Interlochen was required (otherwise, I wouldn't have my spot held there at all), and my grandparents decided to give me a shot at raising the money...without the $2,500 they helped me with, I wouldn't even be on Indiegogo right now!
Breakdown of Costs:
Remaining Tuition (cost after the help of my parents: $4,500, grandparents: $2,500, the financial aid Interlochen has given me: $34,000, minus the fees that IndieGogo takes away after the fundraiser ends, if successful): $8,000
Tuition pays for meals at Interlochen, rooming (dorm!), and all classes.
What will I be paying for? I will be paying for all of the "extra expenses" (travel, technology fee, resident deposit, books/supplies, etc), which totals to around $4000! I will be working hard this summer (I work at Jiang's Chinese Restaurant. Please visit!). :)
Detailed breakdown of expenses and tuition document:
All the proceeds in this campaign go towards the remaining tuition and nothing else.
