WHAT'S THE STORY ABOUT?
An adolescent boy, who serves the Military Forces, experiences homosexual feelings towards one of his comrades. Experiencing these feelings in an uber-masculine and homophobic environment makes it impossible to speak to anybody about them.
We enter the story on their last night at the Austrian-Hungarian border where the inner conflict bubbles up to the surface and forces the two characters to navigate through the crisis socially isolated and armed with loaded weapons.
Read the screenplay either in its German original or English translation. Additionally, you can read my Director's Vision which explains the approach for the artistic execution of the script.
WHAT DOES THE PRODUCTION LOOK LIKE AND WHEN CAN I SEE THE MOVIE?
Homophobia will be a live action short film. We estimate that its going to be around 20 to 30 minutes in length. It will be shot on-location in Austria, where the story is based. At this point, we scheduled the principal photography at the beginning of February 2012.
We want to hold the world premiere in the week of May 17th 2012, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. There will be a live stream on the Internet for everyone who cant come to the world premiere.
Make sure to RSVP on Facebook in order to get a reminder and additional information before the event.
HOW DO I KNOW YOU CAN PULL IT OF?
Everyone on the team has shot or was part of a film production already. Most of the team members studied film at an university or are already working in the film industry.
You might have seen The Boy Next Door, which was my first short film. After traveling the festival circuit, it found a huge online following with almost 2 million views on YouTube alone. In case you havent seen The Boy Next Door, you can watch it here on vimeo.com
HOW CAN I BE PART OF THIS PROJECT?
You can contribute and be part of the journey right here on this page. Chose the amount of money you want to contribute and click the Contribute Now button on the right side. Provide us with your information, leave a comment and chose either credit card or PayPal, whichever you feel more comfortable with, to make your contribution. Dont worry, IndieGoGo leads you through the process step by step.
Both contribution options, credit card and PayPal, as well as the crowd funding platform IndieGoGo have proven to be secure. We can guarantee you that.
WHAT DO I GET IN RETURN?
As a backer, we see you as a member of our team and therefore invite you to make the journey together with us. Well document every step of the production online. You always have the possibility to comment on all developments and influence the production through your suggestions and questions.
Furthermore, we have prepared different kind of perks depending on the amount of money you are able to contribute. See the list on the right side for a detailed descriptions of what your are getting. With whatever amount you feel comfortable with, weve got you covered.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY CONTRIBUTION?
Your contribution will be solely used for the development, production and distribution of the short film. Everyone on the project is working for free and we try to get as much material sponsoring as possible, but there is still a lot of stuff that needs to be paid such as insurance, equipment and other working material and expenses.
We want to keep the project as transparent as possible and thats why well provide you with a detailed item-by-item list recording exactly what your contribution was used for.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU EXCEED THE 6.000$?
6.000$ is the minimum amount we need to maintain the quality we have in mind. In the case that well exceed our goal, make any profit in the future or if the project doesn't raise enough money and can't be produced we decided to donate it all without excpetion to the It Gets Better Project.
The It Gets Better Project is a project that fights gay bullying and provides LGBT teens with a perspective that indeed It Gets Better. Since we fight for the same cause, we decided on this social cause. Find more information about the project on ItGetsBetter.org.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
The crowd funding campaign can only be successful when as many people as possible hear about it and contribute. Therefore, please tell your family, friends, co-workers and your social network about Project Homophobia. Use the sharing tools beneath the video on the top and share it on Facebook and Google+, tweet or embed the campaign on your website or blog.
It's just one click for you but it can mean a huge difference for Project Homophobia.
