Hello, we are the team behind Project Galacticus , our names are Waleed Dahbour, Edwin Ramirez, Andrew Crilly, Regenal Anastacio, and Joshua Tamayo. We are from El Camino High School located in South San Francisco, California, "The Industrial City".
After receiving several rejections for donations from various corporations, we are here today to ask you, the generous people of the internet, to help us construct our tribute to NASA's rover Curiosity, for we've run out of options to seek assistance in funding Project Galcticus. This project is the construction of a rover designed to be durable enough to traverse through various terrains, capture images with several different cameras, record videos, and pick up simple and irregular objects with its robotic limb. If we reach our goal, we will have a functioning rover replica dedicated to the incredible work of technology that is redefining our understanding of space. We want to inspire the world the way NASA has inspired us, to show that even though we're high school students,we have the potential to achieve something astounding that nobody would expect from a group of kids.
This rover will be presented to our graduating class, teaching other high school students not to be scared to create, and to show them to go beyond what the world expects of them. No matter what society thinks, no matter what the financial issues, there is always a way to bring something great, and there are always people in the world who are willing to help, people who care and understand the value of the accomplishments of future generations.
What We Need & What You Get
The team has spent the past couple of months, designing the construction of the robot and its function. For the arm we plan to use 2-4 millimeter thick carbon fiber, with 6 Hitec servos, ball bearings and hexagon shaped spacers.
For the rover's legs, we will be using square steel tubing to help reinforce the weight, while the four outer wheels will have the capability to rotate with motor sets in the joints of the wheels. However all four wheels are equipped with planetary motors, giving us the choice to move slow or fast, and as you have seen in the video, our optical aid is nearly set, all we need is to mount it to a ball bearing turn table.
Concerning the circuitry, we will need two servo controllers, one for the arm, and one for the eyes looking range. Additionally, we'll need to obtain the mother boards which will help control the ten motors for the mobile system, a large amount of batteries to help power this beast and the sufficient amount of steel framing in order to support its weight.
Any contribution is accepted, and your assistance will show that we truly are capable of going beyond the limits of what society deems we are capable of. You'll be helping us to inspire not just the thousands of students around us, but any student that manages to stumble upon what we've created. We will be publishing every step that is taken into constructing this rover, and you can view the steps once we've completed them and published them on projectgalacticus.blogspot.com. With the completion of Project Galacticus, we'll do our best to do as much as we can as high school students to reward you, the people, for helping us achieve a project that only seemed to be just an idea when we started, and you will forever have our thanks, gratitude, and appreciation.
Our perks start with receiving:
All of it is greatly appreciated. A thank you email from team behind Project Galacticus for $10
A signed personal thank you card with a picture of the rover and the team for 25$
You can receive a custom Project Galacticus Beanie for $75 along with a Thank You Card
You can receive a Galacticus T-shirt along with everything else listed above if you donate $125.
For $500 you could have your name or a small logo(SFW) put on the rover in addition with everything else listed above.
Then for $1000 you could have your name and a large logo of your design (SFW) put onto the rover in addition with everything else listed above.
All this money will go towards constructing the project and making sure that every last penny is used to ensure your money went to constructing something worth creating. And please spread the word about our project by sharing it with others, all help is vastly appreciated. Thank you for taking your valuable time to view Project Galacticus .
