Project For Awesome

Every year, on December 17th, the YouTube community gives its time, talent, and money to non-profit organizations. We call it the Project for Awesome.

Hello! Sorry this has taken so long but, in case you missed it, we have (finally) announced the 10 charities the community chose to receive the money raised during the Project for Awesome:

1. Office of Letters and Light
2. Not Forgotten
3. Wildlife Waystation
4. Alzheimer’s Society
5. Harry Potter Alliance
6. Save the Children
7. BGSU Dance Marathon
8. Uncultured Project
9. Techo
10. Love146

By March 22nd we will be contacting each organization individually to inform them of when the grants will be made and how much they should expect to receive. In all, we raised over $400,000 but are still calculating all expenses and fees of the perks and shipping – so we don’t have an exact number to share, but it is more than we ever thought possible. These grants will decrease some serious suck.

Hello Awesome People,

Quick update:

We haven’t announced the winners of Project for Awesome yet because we are still working out the finer logistics of actually giving the money to a couple of them. There’s some minor (and boring) administrative things we have to do in order to stay in compliance with the people that monitor that kind of stuff, and as soon as that is all handled we’ll break out the megaphone and let everyone know who to congratulate. That moment is coming very soon… stay tuned!

PERKS!

We are feverishly working on perks and shipping them out daily. When your perk has been shipped, our shipping software should send you an email letting you know which item was shipped. There are several perks that have been complicated by rejected addresses, return-to-senders, no-such-name reports from the post office, erroneous zip codes, etc etc etc.

If you have already sent an email to either info@projectforawesome.com or perks@projectforawesome.com, your email has been received and will be handled as promptly and thoroughly as is humanly possible. You do not need to resend your email. Again, if you have already sent an email, it has been received, you do not need to resend. Doing so will only slow us down from researching and resolving problems.

That being said, here’s a list of what has been sent:

Men of YouTube Calendars
Signed Pride & Prejudice books (Lizzie Bennet level)
P4A tees w/ P4A lapel pin
Hanklerfish art
Felicia Day posters
Hank’s Face mp3
John Green ebook
John Green and Maureen Johnson short story

Again, if you have sent an email about your non-receipt of any of the above perks, your email has been received and we are working on fixing it. Unfortunately there isn’t a blanket fix for problem shipments, each one has to be researched individually and that is taking us some time.

If you have NOT sent us an email about your non-receipt, please do alert us so that we can get you your deserved perk.

Thank you so much for your patience, your support, and your awesomeness!

Hello! And sorry we haven’t updated you in a while. We’ve been packing like crazy and the first batch of almost 3000 calendars, including international orders, has been sent out. (There are just a few orders with incomplete addresses but we should be getting that worked out very soon.) All of the digital perks (except for the Cassie Claire / Holly Black story) have been sent out. We’re still packing up (and even creating) some of the more peculiar perks (it turns out it takes quite a while to color in Baby Hank Riding an Awesomesaurus (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry about it.)

We’re still waiting on a few people to tell us what shirt size they ordered, so if you haven’t done that, DO IT NOW. We can’t send in the order until we get information from everybody.

But more importantly! We now know which charities are receiving the money! However, we’re keeping it a secret for now while we communicate with the charities and make sure there aren’t any potential hiccups. We also need to finish sending out perks (which sucks up some of the donation numbers) before we know exactly how much money we have to give.

So bear with us as we move maybe a little slower than we all might like, there will be stuff arriving in mailboxes throughout the next month.

Thank you all so much!

Hank

If you have any perk related inquiries, please send a note to perks@projectforawesome.com. For all other inquiries, email info@projectforawesome.com

Hello, Awesome People!

Just a real quick update on when and how you should expect to receive your perks:

Digital perks
We’re going to try and send these out before 2013. You will be notified via email of how to retrieve your digital perk once it is ready. Stay tuned.

Men of YouTube Calendar
This is literally being printed as we speak and will be the first tangible, real-life perk to be sent. As soon as we get it we will be all-hands on deck to mail them out. We have asked the printer to rush the job, but they are also enjoying the holidays with their families so these will probably arrive via snail-mail sometime in the first two weeks of January.

All other tangible, real-life perks
Some of the perks have options, (Yeti drawings, P4A tee shirt, etc) and we will be emailing donors very, very soon to find out which flavor they want or size they need. We are going to try and fulfill all other option-less, tangible perks by the end of January.

tl;dr: ebooks and mp3s by Dec 31, Calendar by Jan 15, all others by Jan 31.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to info@projectforawesome.com and someone will get back to you as soon as they can.

Thanks, and DFTBA!
