What is PPR?
is a nonprofit, mostly volunteer-run, bi-partisan organization that needs your help.
Historically, PPR has provided services to individuals and worked with privacy, consumer, civil and human rights, and social justice organizations worldwide to prevent government and corporations from controlling and using patients’ sensitive personal health data.
Since this summer’s revelations about NSA’s massive spying programs, PPR has been busier than ever. Those who oppose the NSA’s actions are now discovering PPR’s critical work in exposing the surveillance and use of personal health data.
This is great! Yet, PPR is struggling to keep up with the increased demand on our limited resoources. PPR, this small group of activists, needs more hands and more support. We need funds to help build an app to help educate to public and bring awareness to a much larger audience. Our PRIVACY APP will list the privacy policies of different hospitals, health care plans - including Healthcare.gov, mobile health sites, and pharmacies. We will list the pros and cons of these privacy policies and rank them for the public to have a better understanding, letting everyone know who they can trust and if their data is really safe.
What does PPR do?
PPR is a different nature of service provider. What we believe is simple: “Individuals should be in control of their own health information.”
PPR is the largest non-profit advocating for health privacy. PPR and its coalition host the nation’s
largest and most unique privacy event, . It is an inclusive event; it offers the best forum in the world for high-level, thoughtful discussions covering the most
urgent national and international health privacy issues; and more importantly, it recommends solutions. Further, PPR contributes heavily to a number of different conferences and privacy
projects. We accomplish our work largely with volunteers and relying completely on donations.
***Protecting health privacy isn’t just important for your own health and well-being today, but what we do now affects our future generations. PPR cares deeply about protecting personal privacy; we believe that people should be measured by who they are and what they are capable of doing, not their medical history.***

Okay, brilliant. Bottom line is PPR is fighting for us...what else? This is what you really need to know:
Here and now, having Patient Privacy Rights existing and growing is more important than ever. Here’s an example why:
In response to the leaks about the NSA’s blanket surveillance programs, more and more people are becoming concerned about their data – and that includes sensitive health data.
Predictive analytics is the use of big data to predict trends and behavior patterns; it can be used to increase profits and to potentially improve healthcare. However, predictive analytics can also be defined as involuntary data collection and surveillance that may lead to unintended consequences such as discrimination. It is this key result of predictive analytics that most people don’t comprehend. PPR serves as an effective key in helping educate people about the dangers and prevalence of data surveillance, and how that correlates to their health information.
Yet, PPR is a small organization. Our volunteers donate
their time and efforts to educate the public about what they can do to protect
their privacy and prevent things like discrimination.

- privacy-friendly technology and technical support
- beginning phases of developing educational materials (for app development)
- public outreach and collaboration
- wages for dedicated human staff to plan and organize
- other miscellaneous expenses
Campaign seeks $10,000 total
