"Plain Clothes" is the story of a 35-year-old cop trying to make sense of the brutality he sees at work and the struggle not to bring it home.  After promising his wife to see a therapist, the officer shares his isolation and loss of faith after being immersed in the work of murderers and savage felons.  But it's not until his drive home when Cole's faith is truly tested.

Stopping off after work to pick up candles for his son's birthday party, Cole recognizes a suspect from one of his murder cases.  After tailing the suspect to a park along the river, Cole is forced into a vicious standoff that takes him close to death, but even closer to the life he may leave behind.

Inspired by accounts from real police officers, "Plain Clothes" is an unflinching look at the emotional toll paid by the men and women in blue.

I wrote "Plain Clothes" last year while coming out of a pretty dark point in my life.  Despite having a wonderful family with a beautiful new son, I was full of doubt and frustration about my purpose (you could call this a mid-life crisis, sans the toupee and Ferrari).  My shame at having these feelings only magnified the isolation.  

In "Plain Clothes," our main character is dealing with many of these same emotions.  He's slowly losing hold of his marriage and the beliefs that once led him to "protect and serve."  The film really only found its ending, and ultimately its thesis, once I was able to make sense of the purpose for my life.    

This movie, much like "Take Me Home" before it, is not a small movie.  It has tremendous scope and vital themes running through it.  In essence, it's a big movie on a small budget.  And its evolvement, its success, begins with you.
