We believe that the downtown district is the heartbeat of any city. After many years of the city center being abandoned and left in disrepair it is time to embrace the area that made our cities great to begin with! Loft apartments, vintage music, clothing & accessory shops, restaurants and businesses are reclaiming spaces in history rich buildings.
We see a great opportunity to provide a place for music, art, and community to thrive! A hangout for indie filmmakers, artisans, musicians, poets, and transmedia to thrive!
With a location that is central in our downtown area, and access to the whole city within minutes, it's an exciting prospect to have a place to enjoy creation of art and expression of all kinds.
Our paradox is that to create art, we must create an artful place to inspire and display it... but by creating the space we are in fact fulfilling our own intentions.
Our location is set, we have a 10 year fixed lease with a motivated and encouraging community member. It started its life in the 1800's as a department store and warehouse and then was changed into a toy emporium. It has been recreated into many things along the way but its history, beauty and artistry continues to inspire everyone who enters.
107 S. 6th St. was originally constructed using the highest quality brick, lumber and iron, but there was almost no maintenance in recent decades. We have begun restoration--our sweat, blood, tears, and powers of DIY are mighty. No major construction is required, but floors, walls, and ceilings are to be patched, bathrooms completely remodeled, adequate lighting installed and professional quality sound equipment acquired.
But decades of neglect cannot be reversed overnight. There are many problems with this building both aesthetically and in usability. We are reclaiming the first floor (over 7000 Sq Feet) for our uses and although the building owner is fixing the front facade and entry way, we are responsible for the entire interior of our space.
What you can do
You can help us realize the dream of providing a place for music, art, and community to thrive by doing the following for us:
- Fund what you can--every little bit helps, every concert ticket, T-shirt, party RSVP or founders wall claim helps push us towards the goal. We welcome your contributions for this year and pledge to put them to good use in rebuilding. We are not using this money to pay ourselves.
- Share our IndieGoGo fundraising link with your social networks
- Follow the project and contribute in other ways, with art, equipment, or time.
