Short Summary
The Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation was founded in 2008 by Peter S. Pelullo. A survivor himself, Pete recognized that while there are many organizations scattered throughout the US to help children who experience sexual abuse there are no real resources for adults to help them heal from their childhood sexual abuse trauma.
Since its inception the organization has worked to provide a platform for survivors to find their voice and share their stories via the foundation's website www.letgoletpeacecomein.org. It has also aligned with the number one public health school in the world to support pioneering intitatives focused on prevention, early intervention, research, and access to a higher quality of care for survivors.
Child sexual abuse is more common than you think and it can occur within the family or by individuals outside the home. 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 4 boys will experience at least one sexual violation before the age of 18.
It only takes one time---one sexual violation to change the life course of a survivor. The long-term emotional and psychological damage resulting from child sexual abuse can be devastating to survivors and those who care about them most.
By supporting the Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation you will be saving lives.
What We Need & What You Get
Currently the foundation is working on all fronts to raise more than $3 million to support its prevention, intervention, research, and care initiatives. This social funding campaign is one component of an overall funding strategy aimed at bringing healing, recovery, and scientific knowledge to the survivor community.
In addition to the changing the world through knowledge and the prospect of revolutionizing the public policy landscape thanks to our alignment with the number one public health school in the world, the foundation also directly subsidizes trauma therapy treatment for adult survivors who do not have the means or adequate insurance to begin their own healing process.
The Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation was the only organization to reach out to and offer treatment to the young men affected by the perpetrations of Jerry Sandusky. Two of the young men who testified in court received therapy subsidies from the foundation for counseling and a third young man who did not testify as part of the original grand jury preceedings is also currently receiving subsidy assistance from the foundation for his therapy sessions. All three of these young men have expressed their gratitude for the support and care that the foundation has provided them. One of them is featured in the campaign video clip above.
Contributors who donate at least $500 will received a signed copy of Peter S. Pelullo's book Betrayal and the Beast: A true story of one man's journey through childhood sexual abuse, sexual adiction, and recovery. In his memoir Pete reveals his own sexual violations as a child and describes how for 48 years he lived a disconnected double life rife with addictions in spite of his professional success.
The Impact
With more than 60 million survivors existing the in US today and millions more across the globe each of us know a survivor and we probably know more than one.
These survivors are not just the downtrodden people living on the margins of society they are also successful business people, parents, and even adult children who have never spoken about their violations, but continue to exist in a life that could at a moments notice be triggered by a smell, a sound, a situation, or even the development of their own child. Without organizations like the Let Go... Let Peace Come In Foundation that provide a voice for those who have been silenced these individuals will struggle in a society that expects them to just "get over it".
The ubiquitous nature of child sexual abuse increases the possibility that our children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will marry someone who has experienced sexual abuse in their lifetime. The time to stop the cycle is now.
Since 2010 the foundation has raised enough funds to subsidize therapy sessions for 15 survivors in four states, but we need to do more. On average one therapy session with a qualified trauma therapist costs about $100. With your support we can help "one survivor at a time". Additionally we have also raised more than $200,000 toward the advancement of prevention, intervention, research, and care efforts.
