Open Source

We would like the film to not only to be about developers, but also include the users too. In the true spirit of open source we would like YOU to be a part of the movie. Yep you can record your own video, your thoughts about open source software in general. Then upload that video to a place like Dropbox and share the url to me here in a private message to possibly be included in the film. We would like to put as many of you as possible in it.

Please follow these simple guidelines.

Developers

• Say your name along with how it's spelled.
• Say where you are from. Location.
• What projects have you worked on?
• What motivates you?
• The video can be as long or as short as you want. It will be edited anyway.

Users

• Say your name along with how it's spelled.
• Say where you are from. Location.
• What open source software do you use?
• Why are you using open source software?
• What do you like or don't like about it?
• What makes it important for you to use it?

 

The film will go into production immediately, with this crowd-funding campaign being part of the film.

There will be a sub-plot involving a long time open source project. Two developers that have worked together almost every day for over 7 years, and have never met.This film will chronicle the day to day operations of their widely used open source software and their eventual meeting.

Post-Production will begin in the fall and we hope to have the movie ready by the end of the year. The film will be submitted to several film festivals in order to get IMDB credit, and then eventually be available to download free online.

We hope to raise as much as we can for this film and have really underestimated the production budget on purpose. As open source software developers we are used to working on a shoestring budget and plan to make the movie whether we reach our funding goal or not.

We will really need your help other than just financing. We need you to use the sharing tools available above. Those tools create a unique tracking number which will allow us to see who is driving the most traffic to this page. That will also be included as part of the movie.

We have put our funding deadline at 60 days. If we collect more than our estimated production budget the extra money will be used to enter the film into more film festivals. You can contribute as often as you like. Ready? Set... Go !!!
