And as seen here:
Oxygenate your Life!
Oxygen is the single most important element in delivering flavor in beverages. But oxygen is now routinely stripped out of everything from water to wine to increase shelf life. Infuse that magic ingredient back into your life naturally with O-Pal. It’s aeration in high gear. Bitterness disappears; hidden flavors are discovered. O2 your brew and feel your taste buds dance with delight!
Oxygen Bubbles are Fun…
You instinctively know that a foaming beverage is going to be satisfyingly delicious. It’s the oxygen in those air bubbles activating the flavors. Cultures around the world recognize the value of oxygenating beverages. The Japanese tea ceremony, the Indian coffee-making process, Mexican hot chocolate and, of course, the secret agent method of making a martini are just a few examples. Until now, you were limited to the 21% oxygen available in the air. With O-Pal you can quickly infuse your beverages with 95% oxygen.
We like our coffee strong, but that often means bitterness overwhelms the complex flavors you expect from a good brew. A short infusion of oxygen foams your coffee like a cappuccino, instantly enhancing the flavors and removing bitterness.
Immature red wines often have overwhelming sulfite and tannin tastes. Put a burst of oxygen nano-bubbles into your glass with O-Pal and those unwelcome guests are gone; you suddenly are aware of the subtle fruity and nutty flavors that were hiding in the background all along.
Similarly, cocktails are transformed into a whole new experience with a short shot from O-Pal. Enhanced flavor and texture opens new territory for mixologists…think “oxygenated, not stirred.”
…and Good for You
If fruits are your passion, turn juices into wonderful foamy drinks with renewed freshness and lower acidity.
Try an oxygen cocktail! Flavorful juice or milk-based drinks brimming with oxygen nano-bubbles are a phenomenon that has recently spread through health spas and juice bars across Asia and into Europe. Now you can try it for yourself with O-Pal

O-Pal is Unique…
O-Pal is the world’s smallest personal oxygen concentrator. Portable and self-contained, it’s equally at home in the kitchen, the coffee bar, or at a party. We developed this patent-pending technology right here in our lab, and we have exclusive access to the filter material that makes O-Pal work. About once every second, air is pushed through the filter—technically it’s called a molecular sieve—where nitrogen is trapped and then expelled back into the air while oxygen is captured and stored in the clear reservoir. A microchip controls the operation, letting you know the status of the battery and other components. When in standby mode, O-Pal is always ready to deliver several bursts of 95% pure oxygen and automatically keeps the reservoir filled.
We’ve tested the oxygen separation technology inside O-Pal for over 2 years, so we're confidently offering a 3-year limited warranty. We’ve sourced our components from reliable German, French, and U.S. vendors and will assemble them here in our Pennsylvania facility.
- Long life rechargeable batteries so there’s nothing to return for refill, ship back or throw away.
- Less expensive to purchase and use than any other oxygen source, about1¢ per serving.
- Smaller and more energy efficient than any plug-in oxygen machine, O-pal will run up to 3 hours continuously on a single battery charge or all day when used intermittently.
- Much less expensive per serving than bottled oxygenated beverages.
O-Pal and the oxygen it delivers are completely safe. Here’s why.
- No caffeine or other stimulants found in energy drinks and dietary supplements,
- No calories, no carbs, no sugars.
- No scents, flavors, or other chemicals.
- O-Pal removes airborne pollutants so it’s cleaner than ordinary aeration.
- Made from BPA-free polycarbonate.
No high pressure
O-Pal stores oxygen at no more than 11 pounds per square inch (psi). That’s enough to oxygenate a few cups of coffee or glasses of wine every few minutes, but not enough to be dangerous. Compare to canned oxygen at up to one thousand psi!
Why Support This Project
First, we can’t do this alone. We are a small start-up and have put most of our resources into doing the science that got the O-Pal technology and design to this point. Our business model has, up to now, been work-for-hire. We need the capital from this campaign to tool up for injection molding (in the U.S.) and begin ordering parts. We plan on shipping in April 2013 and do not anticipate any delays, because we will control the final assembly process.
We calculate it will take $95,000 to manufacture and ship the first 250 units. We have $20,000 already set aside and our investors have promised another $30,000. We’re asking backers on Indiegogo for $45,000, which will complete the initial project financing. Of course, the more orders we get, the happier we’ll be.
Second, we think O-Pal is destined to be the most sought after gustatory accessory of 2013! If you’re a coffee drinker, spa owner, mixologist, wine connoisseur, chocoholic, fruit juice lover, dieter, athlete, vintner, beer brewer, foodie, etc. you already appreciate great tasting beverages. Become one of the early adopters. Explore the possibilities!
Third, when you back this project at any level we will donate 5% of our net to Doctors Without Borders. We recognize that O-Pal is a luxury, but good health shouldn’t be. If, like us, you choose to indulge in improving the taste of the beverages you enjoy every day, we will contribute something to improving the health of others.
Separation Design Group is a small start-up independent research and product development company located in the rural southwest corner of Pennsylvania. Our mission is to promote a reasonable and sustainable relationship between humans, technology, and the environment. Until now we have worked with other companies, integrating our technology into their devices. O‑Pal is our first consumer product.
Individually, we’d all done lots of other jobs (physics professor, chemical engineer, steelworker, waitress, graphic designer, etc.) but a few years ago we followed our hearts, took the leap, and joined forces at SDGroup. If you visit www.sdgroup.us you will see that our interests and accomplishments are far reaching.
While urban inventors may set up shop in a nearby warehouse or garage, we worked with what was available here and repurposed an abandoned county-owned facility. We purchase 100% renewable-sourced electricity from the grid and are installing a solar thermal heating system. We barter with local scientists and universities for help with various projects and acquire (and repair and repurpose) mostly used equipment. We bootstrapped all of this with investments from friends and family, and supported our early work with research grants. O-Pal is our first effort to take all this to the next level of financial sustainability.
What’s Next for O-Pal?
These are some of the concepts being developed as future O-Pal accessories.
- Charging dock for easy charging and cord-free operation.
- Carry bag or wallet transports your O-Pal and accessories
- Satellite reservoir provides extra oxygen storage capacity
- Interactive recipe book to share and compare
- Silicone gripper adds color and convenience
- Blender head for extra foaming action
Thanks from all of us at SDGroup!
We're still working on the digital wallpaper, mug and T-shirt design, but they all will incorporate the O-Pal logo.
